Norton internet security advanced protection not fixed?
I recently installed Windows 7 and reinstalled my Norton Internet Security 09′, and one of the first problems I came across with was a Norton driver not working. The next thing I know is the advanced protection not working, or not being “fixed” when asked to. I tried looking everywhere, but everyone’s problem wasn’t the same as mine.

Don’t use norton. Don’t use Mcafee both are terrible. Use Avast or Kaspersky please for your own sake. if you don’t want to heed my warning then go to norton .com and see if there is an update for norton. If there is download it and all should be well. If not call norton customer service and have tell them your plight. before you do that run windows update and get the latest update. if the windows update doesn’t work and there are no updates on the norton site then call norton’s customer service line. They will probably be able to help you more than anyone on here can.
http://www.norton.com/nis10 will get you the latest version and you don’t have to pay for it. it’s a free upgrade, and it’s tons better than kaspersky or avast in terms of detection rates and speed.
The advanced protection is SONAR, a heuristic engine which lets Norton detect threats it doesn’t have definitions for. Generally, when this is turned off, it’s due to a problem with the RPC service. Open “eventvwr.exe” under application logs, for “service control manager” errors. Alternatively, click start, type “CMD”, and right click the result to run it as administrator. Then do a system file checker scan, thusly:
type: “sfc /scannow”.
If it asks you for a disk, you have operating system damage which may be causing the error. Contact Microsoft. :-)
Hi Javad,
This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.
For full compatibility with Windows 7, you should install Norton internet Security 2010. As long as you have a valid license, you are entitled to a free update to the 2010 version, and any future product updates, for the life of your subscription. Since you are having problems with your current installation, please carefully follow the steps below to properly remove the 2009 version and install the 2010 version.
1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:
2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Log into Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.
3. Click on the link below and then choose “Save As” to download the latest installer for Norton Internet Security 2010.
http://spftrl.digitalriver.com/pub/symantec/tbyb/NAM/NIS10TBEN.exe
4. If the installer does not begin after the file has been downloaded, double-click on the file to begin the installation.
5. After the installation is complete, launch Norton internet Security 2010 and manually run LiveUpdate, to ensure that you have the latest updates applied.
6. Complete a “Full System Scan” to check for infections.
Thank you,
Mike
