The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, will soon begin a major renovation project that will close the museum for about two years, and will include a substantial enhancement of its security system.

The museum, which is run by the Smithsonian Institution, recently attracted a lot of attention with its dazzling display of jewels from the fabled Van Cleef & Arpels collection, including custom brooches, necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings.
