Neither Threatfire nor MBAM is a comphrehensive anti-virus solution and should be used in addition to a traditional anti-virus NOT in place of one.
Threatfire uses heuristic techniques to guard against zero-day attacks and MBAM is a specialized removal tool to deal with approximately 2500 of the latest, toughest to remove threats: http://www.malwarebytes.org/malwarenet.php
Bottom line is you need to add a traditional anti-virus to your security arsenal.
For your Anti-Virus……I would suggest Avast. Avast now includes anti-virus, some anti-spyware capability and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Avast + Threatfire + MBAM = excellent protection that I myself have used on one of my machines.

That’s ONLY 2500 out of the over one half million (500,000) virus and malware threats out there. Not very good odds!
