Hungarian pleads guilty in hack/extortion plot against hotel chain

A Hungarian man pleaded guilty to charges of hacking into the Marriott International Corp.’s computers and threatening to expose the hotel’s confidential information and inject malware into its computer if it didn’t hire him to maintain the company’s computers.

Attila Nemeth, 26, pleaded guilty under an agreement that would give him a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for the transmission of the malicious code and a maximum of five years in prison for his threats to expose confidential information, said a Department of Justice statement on Nov. 23.
