Industry-aligned programmes for every aspiration

Few universities can evolve academic offerings in line with market trends and industry needs the way Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) does. Established in 1989, HKMU has come a long way. Today, it is home to seven research institutes with over 100 million Kong Kong dollars in research funding, 51 programmes under the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS), and about 200 academic programmes delivered by seven dynamic schools.

It’s clear there’s something for every aspiration, resulting in an approximately 20,000-strong student body. HKMU educators focus on providing students with a solid academic foundation and essential work competencies.

To do so, they pair comprehensive studies with global immersion programmes and collaborative initiatives fuelled by an extensive line-up of industry partners, nurturing a new generation of talent to cater for the needs of an ever-evolving economy.

Adding value to the economy begins with understanding its various sectors and needs. The Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration understands the importance of early career engagement. Each of its 50 programmes is filled with experiential learning activities, such as internships, job shadowing, leadership training and overseas learning programmes.

“What I was engaged in at HKMU helped broaden my horizons,” says student Chan Ching Hsiang, who was eventually awarded an internship at Credit Suisse. “My mentor introduced me to directors from J.P. Morgan and Credit Suisse, and I learnt how to equip myself to get into the investment banking industry.”

Launched in 2017, the Global Immersion Programme was designed to ensure students can deepen their understanding of the cultural, social and economic dynamics around the world.

Twenty-one pathways are available to business-savvy aspirants, four of which stand out for being especially versatile: Accounting and Taxation, Global Business and Marketing,

Professional Accounting, and Financial Technology and Innovation.
