Is Microsoft Security Essentials Enough to protect my computer?

Can microsoft security essentials protect my windows 7 instead of using other antivirus? Is it enough to protect my computer against virus, spyware, malware and hackers?

MSE and Windows firewall are very good and will stop the casual attacker. You can test your security yourself by using Shields Up – https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 which probes your computer for weaknesses. Don’t worry GRC is a professional security company and won’t do anything nasty. They just report on what holes in your security they found.

Like the browser and even operating system people use, everyone has their favorite, those are mine.

MSE provides real-time protection for Windows 7 PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

They know all of the Windows processes inside and out. The anti-virus is lightweight and free. Works well with Windows Firewall. Besides, they build the OS. I think they owe it to consumers to protect it.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free download from Microsoft.

Download additional anti-spyware software my favourite is Malwarebytes..

You can run any realtime anti-spyware program with MSE and it will not conflict. Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware works well with MSE, provided that you get the free version, which doesn’t have real-time protection. There’s a chance of bad interactions with MSE if MBAM’s real-time protection is turned on. Install the free version, then update it and run scans occasionally.

Would also recommend that you use a safer browser like Mozilla Firefox.

Install the McAfee SiteAdvisor add-on – when searching for something using yahoo, google or msn, it displays either a green tick (safe site), yellow exclamation mark (use with care) or a red cross (dangerous site) next to every result.

Always keep your Windows, web browser and Java software up to date – frequent patches are released to plug security holes.

    No.
I would get a separate firewall as well, for example, comodo one.
Also, I recommend using AVG link scanner as another layer of protection.

    No not really.

If you’re looking for a free antivirus, I reccomend downloading Comodo Internet Security, http://www.comodo.com

/, it comes full packed with antiivrus, a firewall better than Windows Firewall, and a Behavior Blocker, don’t change any of the settings.

Next, download these two programs for a double-layered protection against spyware and malware:

    MalwareBytes Anti Malware malwarebytes.org
    SUPERAntispyware superantispyware.com

Now download these two programs for double layered protection against rookits, bootkits, and hidden malware!

    Rootkit Revealer
    F-Secure Blacklight

Then download these four programs for system optimization

    CCleaner
    Defraggler
    Auslogics Disk Defrag
    Smart Defrag

Finally, download Mozilla Firefox for a safer alternative to IE, it’s lightning fast, clean minimalistic interface, safe and secure, and easy to use. Make sure you download this security addon, and any other addons you like from addons,mozilla.com
    Security addon: WOT https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wot-safe-browsing-tool/

Also, I reccomend getting Mcafee Site Advisor Free, which will tell you whether a link is safe or not.

Make sure to keep your computer updated!

You should be fully protected from anything!
