So, I have Norton Internet security and sometimes I can get the location of where an attempt to access my computer is originating (mostly South America). Anywho…is it possible, without going too software crazy, to trace to a general location where an email originated? Sometimes I get an email and i would like a better idea of where it’s coming from, in an actual sence as part of a larger conception. Anyone?

With the e-mail internet header you should be able to find out what is the originating IP address (and the server name from where the mail was sent). In outlook, open the target email and you have to select view -> options.

From there you can use a whois services on the net to trace back the originating provider.

Why bother most spammers are spoofing addresses anyway. Or using open relays. You can email their ISP and report them but most ISPs in foreign countries don’t care.
