Amazon bans Google Chromecast, Apple TV

Generally speaking, no retailer has to sell anything it doesn’t want to sell.  So Amazon.com is under no obligation to sell the products of competitors such as Google and Apple.

Just don’t expect customers to be happy about that decision and don’t feed them a line of malarkey about how it’s for their own good.

From a Bloomberg report:

The Seattle-based Web retailer sent an e-mail to its marketplace sellers that it will stop selling Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast. No new listings for the products will be allowed and posting of existing inventory will be removed Oct. 29, Amazon said. Amazon’s streaming service, called Prime Video, doesn’t run easily on its rival’s hardware.

Attivo brings deception technology to Amazon Web Services

Attivo Networks, a startup launched last year, has upgraded its deception technology so businesses can deploy it within the portion of their corporate cloud that is hosted by Amazon Web Services.

That means customers can lure attackers to what looks like legitimate physical and virtual machines among their production AWS resources. It lets attackers carry out their exploits harmlessly to see what damage they are trying to do. This information can be used to find instances of the attack against real physical and virtual machines that are in use.

My first thought was that this is pretty slick; I was there just the day before checking out prices on a Nintendo 3DS XL … and the next day here’s a nag note reminding me I fell one click short of completing the mission.
