Ballmer uses Twitter to tout his investments, including a new 4% stake in Twitter

Twitter’s stock price spiked this morning on news that Steve Ballmer, former Microsoft CEO and current owner of the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team, has acknowledged having recently accumulated 4% of Twitter’s stock.

Ballmer made this pronouncement – where else? – on Twitter, though there was initial skepticism regarding the authenticity of the tweet because it originated on a relatively new Twitter account that lacked the requisite blue checkmark we’ve come to rely upon to separate the real from the bogus.

Nadella’s reply: “Fountain pens.”

The interviewer held up her garden-variety pen and asked, “No more of these?”

Citing super-busy schedule, Ballmer resigns from Microsoft board

Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has broken another tie with the company, stepping down from the company’s board of directors effective immediately.

Ballmer says in an email to CEO Satya Nadella that he’s too busy with his new ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team, teaching, study and civic contributions to carry on. “The fall will be hectic between teaching a new class and the start of the NBA season so my departure from the board is effective immediately,” he writes.
