CO 141 between Naturita and Gateway to close for flood safety — Colorado Department of Transportation

Southwest Colorado — CO Highway 141 will likely be closed between Naturita and Gateway on Friday evening due to forecasted high river flows. If the river reaches expected levels, the Colorado Department of Transportation plans to close the highway at 5 p.m. The highway will remain closed until the flood danger has subsided. This closure is dependent on various factors including snowmelt and reservoir releases. The public will be alerted once the official closure is in place. As flow amounts fluctuate, the bridge may require additional closures.

“River flows in the area have not been observed at these levels in 18 years. With the flood event expected to peak this Friday, we are taking proactive and cautionary measures at this particular bridge. Engineers and maintenance personnel will be assessing the structural integrity throughout this high-flow event,” stated Julie Constan, Regional Transportation Director.

For safety, CDOT has determined that the bridge structure at Roc Creek should be closed to traffic while peak water flows are occurring. The structure is located approximately 27.5 miles north of Naturita at Mile Point 88.5.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood advisory for the Dolores River due to the increased release of water from McPhee Reservoir. The flood advisory also includes the Dolores and San Miguel Rivers due to heavy runoff from snowmelt. The flood advisory is in place until further notice and covers the counties of Montezuma, Dolores, San Miguel and Montrose.

In a complaint to the cyber cell, the state government’s water resources department that has been maintaining the data said that all its files have been encrypted and can no longer be accessed.

Goa’s flood monitoring system was hit by ransomware attackers who have demanded to be paid in cryptocurrency for the data on flood monitoring stations to be released.

“Server has been under the cyberattack of ransomware. Under the attack, all files are encrypted with eking extension and cannot be accessed. In a popup and stored file, the attackers are demanding Bitcoins Cryptocurrency for the decryption of the data. The attack was carried out on 21 June 2022 midnight between 12am-2am. The integrity of the data has been altered making it impossible to back up the previous data. The server works on the 24×7 internet line and the attack was eased due to absence of antivirus and outdated firewalls,” the complaint filed by executive engineer Sunil Karmarkar revealed.

The complaint was filed on June 24 but has come to light today.

The data center server located at Panaji was storing data of the flood monitoring system at 15 locations on major rivers in Goa to monitor flood levels in rivers as a part of disaster management in order to have a control on floods eventualities.

The data of flood monitoring system, automated rain gauges and weather gauges get stored in the server located at the Water Resources Department Headquarters in the state capital while the servers were being maintained by ASTRA Microwave Products limited, Hyderabad.

As a result of the hacking, the department can now no longer access its data related to battery voltages of different stations, data packets related to 12 stations, has lost all its old data which can now no longer be backed up locally and has also lost real time data of the rivers currently in spate owing to the ongoing vigorous monsoon activity across the state.

The London-area local government’s website was down Friday as its information technology department and a third-party expert worked through the system-wide issue, the county’s top administrator said.

“We’re still determining the root cause,” chief administrator Julie Gonyou wrote in an online message exchange on Friday. “The website and external incoming/outgoing email are down while we assess the root cause of the technical disruption and work to resolve a number of technical issues.”

The website and email outage comes two weeks after Gonyou, in an internal memo to county staff reviewed by The Free Press, warned that officials were dealing with a “cyber security incident” and had brought in a consultant to help fix it.

In the memo emailed on March 31, Gonyou wrote county officials were concerned by a large amount of spam emails sent to Elgin County staff. Many of the emails contained malicious attachments or links and were sent from emails doctored to look like they were legitimate senders, Gonyou’s email noted.

The memo stated county officials were watching closely for any potential data breaches and warned it was possible the volume of spam emails could become unmanageable, forcing a temporary shutdown of the email system.

Elgin has cyber security insurance and is working with an adjuster for its insurance company, which has offered “resources and supports,” the internal email noted.

The cyber disruption is being felt across multiple Elgin County departments.

Malware Email Attempts Flood Area Businesses | News

Spam emails are being sent to many business in our area, including this newspaper.

The emails have become an annoyance of late.   This prompted the Executive Director of the Chamber, Sweetwater and Nolan County, Karen Hunt  to issue clarification:

“It has been brought to my attention that a few have received email from me with the subject seeming to have something to do with leadership class or a leadership participant invoice due.

DO NOT OPEN any attachments for an invoice or the leadership schedule or whatever the bait might be.

We do not send invoices by email unless we are contacted to do so. Invoices are still sent through the USPS mail. Also, Leadership Sweetwater and Future Sweetwater continue to be on hold until we feel it is safe to proceed and the organizations and facilities involved are comfortable with resuming the program.

Please note that my email address should appear as [email protected]. In two incidents thus far, my email address has not been correct. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or comments.”
