Security guard rescued man from RV fire in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — A security guard’s being considered a hero after rescuing a man from an RV fire in the I-90 homeless camp on Friday night.

According to the Spokane Fire Department (SFD), an observant security guard noticed the heavy smoke coming from the RV and opened the door to rescue the man who was asleep inside.

The occupant and the security guard told firefighters they saw heavy fire above the occupant’s head rolling toward the rear of the trailer when they crawled out.

SFD said the occupant only had seconds before a flashover of the space happened, which most likely both people.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within two minutes of the 911 call. When they arrived, they have to cut the fence to access the southwest corner of the camp.

Fire crews searched inside the RV and extinguished the flames in about eight minutes despite obstacles and heavy clutter. An additional ladder company also helped. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters determined the cause was because of an electrical circuit being overloaded, which was connected by a small generator. The electrical circuit had no protection to prevent a fire. SFD report it was severely overloaded with appliances, chargers and a window air conditioning unit.

The damage to the RV and its contents resulted in a complete loss. The Red Cross is now helping the occupants.

Texas mall security guard Christian LaCour died after saving shopper

WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT

The mall security guard who was shot and killed during the Texas massacre died after helping lead a shopper to safety and going back to try and save others — as authorities are still probing a motive in the rampage.

Christian LaCour, 20, a security guard who worked at the Allen Premium Outlets, was busy working a shift on Saturday afternoon when Mauricio Garcia, 33, opened fire on shoppers with an AR-15-style rifle.

Allen Chief of Police Brian Harvey said that in the chaos, LaCour rushed to save a person, leading them away from the gunman, who then set his sights on the security guard and killed him.

“We must acknowledge the bravery of allied security guard Christian LaCour, who evacuated one individual to safety and was shot while courageously remaining to help others,” Harvey said during a news conference Tuesday.

LaCour, of Farmersville, was the first victim publicly identified by family, who described him as a “beautiful soul” and a “very sweet gentleman.”

“Words can not even begin to describe the devastation that our family feels,” Kellie Smith, the mother of LaCour’s sister-in-law wrote.

“There will forever be a void.”

Thatikonda, 26, an engineer at Perfect General Contractors, in Frisco, was an immigrant from India who came to study in the US in pursuit of a better life for her and her family, a rep for the family told CNN.

She came to the US about five years ago and graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2020 with a Masters in construction management.

Intel Boot Guard private keys have reportedly leaked, compromising the security of many computers

It seems like every other day there are scumbags out there perpetrating a new hack, taking advantage of a vulnerability or trying to extort people with ransomware. MSI is the latest victim, with hackers leaking material stolen from a breach of MSI’s systems last month (opens in new tab).

This one has the potential to be serious. According to tweets by Alex Matrosov (opens in new tab), the founder of Binarly (opens in new tab), at least some of the previously stolen 1.5TB of data has been leaked. The data includes private keys, some of which appear to be Intel Boot Guard keys. The leak of such keys doesn’t just affect MSI systems, but those from other vendors too, including Lenovo and Supermicro.

DVIDS – News – Maryland Air Guard exercise skills to be ready for warfare

The Maryland Air National Guard conducted a readiness exercise involving Airmen in a simulated deployed environment across Martin State Air National Guard Base from March 2-5.

The exercise, designated Operation Lucky Strike 2023, was built to test and demonstrate the 175th Wing’s ability to survive and operate in a near-peer conflict while executing unit-level critical tasks. All training activities were observed and monitored by unit subject matter experts and the inspector general’s office, which provided feedback to leaders and participants.

“Operation Lucky Strike is a full-scale readiness exercise designed to test our Airmen’s ability to ensure mission essential tasks are met in a contested, degraded, operationally limited environment including CBRN, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear environments,” said Maryland Air National Guard Capt. Sara Nittinger, 175th Wing director of inspections. “Everything is driven by the new Air Force generation concept, AFFORGEN. It is how we prepare our Airmen for deployments, where they have to be able to demonstrate that they can accomplish their core mission essential tasks in a variety of threat levels.”

During the exercise, wing Airmen had to operate during simulated cyberattacks, power outages, hazardous material accidents, force protection events, and severe weather. The exercise also took place at multiple locations, including Aberdeen Proving Ground and Ft. Meade, testing the wing’s ability to demonstrate agile combat employment, known as ACE.

“In the future, we could be operating in a hostile combat environment that is contested or degraded against an adversary that has peer capabilities – in other words, as capable as us and in some cases maybe more capable,” said Maryland Air National Guard Col. Richard Hunt, 175th Wing vice commander. “They are going to threaten us as much as we threaten them. In order for us to survive, operate, and be effective in a high-risk combat scenario, we need to have the ability to forward deploy to conduct combat operations for a very limited…
