Twin B Joe Fresh upends Sylvia Hanover in $250,000 Lynch

Twin B Joe Fresh (Roll With Joe) used an aggressive approach and it paid off as her main rival broke stride and she went on to win the $250,000 James Lynch Memorial for sophomore pacing fillies in harness racing action at Pocono Downs on Saturday afternoon (August 19th).

Driver Dexter Dunn used his post advantage with Twin Be Joe Fresh on Sylvia Hanover (Bob McClure) to take command early and force that rival – who had yet to lose a race this year before today – to take back. Twin B Joe Fresh was allowed to set a reserved early pace, clicking off a quarter in :27.2 and a half in a pedestrian :56.2. Meanwhile, Sylvia Hanover, who pulled at the three-eighths pole, moved up to challenge and pulled even with the leader at the five-eighths pole.

The rival fillies battled through a :26.1 third quarter throwdown and appeared to be readying for an epic stretch drive when Sylvia Hanover jumped off stride just past the 1:22.3 three quarters. Her break in stride drew an audible gasp from the on-track crowd.

That left only pocket sitting Charleston to worry about and Twin B Joe Fresh, on the strength of a :27.1 kicker, easily held that rival at bay by 1 1/2 lengths. in 1:49.4. It was another three lengths back to Sweet Amira who edged Odds on Hail Mary for third.

Victorious driver Dunn, who also owns the winner with trainer Chris Ryder and partners, said his filly was easy to rate and that helped. “We did get a good breather, she came back to me nicely,” he said. “If you can get her out of the gate, she’ll come back to you nicely. Obviously, we had Sylvia bearing down on us on the back there. It was a little lucky for us that she made a break, but my filly was still traveling great at the time.”

Twin B Joe Fresh, who paid $3.80 as the slight favorite, was taking her fifth win in eight starts this year and she raised her lifetime earnings to more than $911,000.

US President Joe Biden visits US troops in Poland

Recently photos surfaced on social media of a roughly four-foot-wide tan, airplane-shaped drone that had fallen out of the sky in the Kyiv region, crashing into the sandy ground.

While that one failed to explode on impact, the images verified by The Washington Post provide some of the first evidence Russia is using a new and terrifying weapon in its war against Ukraine: a killer drone that can dive bomb into targets, destroying them with little notice.

The Russian kamikaze drones, also known as loitering munitions, will soon be joined on the battlefield by ones sent to Ukrainian forces by the United States, making the war the largest direct conflict between two countries in which they’ve been deployed on both sides. Researchers who specialise in the field say it shows that these drones are becoming the norm in modern warfare, and are likely to make the conflict more deadly and unpredictable.

“It’s going to be more of a psychological effect,” said Ingvild Bode, an autonomous weapons researcher at the University of Southern Denmark. “There’s no place to hide.”

Russia’s February 24 invasion and the ensuing war has already been a proving ground for high-tech weaponry. Ukrainian troops have used portable antitank missiles to destroy countless Russian vehicles, while social media has been used by Russia’s government to try to muddy the facts on the ground with disinformation.

On Twitter, regular people around the world have been verifying photos of Russian troop movements and reporting them to Ukrainian authorities to aid in the war effort.

Drones have also played a key role in the war. Ukraine’s Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2, the size of a small airplane and equipped with laser-guided missiles, is wreaking havoc on Russian tanks and trucks and helping to stymie the invasion.

There’s some evidence Ukraine might also be using the Polish-produced Warmate drone – which can be reused as a surveillance drone or equipped with explosives to become a loitering munition – said Wim Zwijnenburg, a drone…

When Joe met Xi – the Seinfeld summit

Former national security adviser H.R. McMaster argues there were no breakthroughs during Biden’s virtual meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

This was the Seinfeld summit – nothing happened. And that works to Communist China’s advantage because all President Joe Biden did was signal to Xi Jinping American acceptance of what should otherwise be an unacceptable status quo.

In that status quo, Communist China continues to wage economic and cyber warfare on the United States. No pushback from Biden and they continue to hack our computers and take apart our manufacturing base.

XI CALLS BIDEN ‘MY OLD FRIEND’ AFTER US PRESIDENT HAD INSISTED THEY WERE NOT CLOSE

Communist China continues to rattle sabers in the Taiwan Strait. At least according to the Chinese readout, Biden remains committed to the so-called One China policy and does not support Taiwan’s independence. Yet there was no pushback from Biden on China’s growing threats to Taiwan and therefore a clear sign of Neville Chamberlain-style weakness that will invite additional Communist aggression.

BIDEN’S FED CHAIR ANNOUNCEMENT IMMINENT

Communist China continues to build coal plants with little if any environmental controls at a breakneck – and break the carbon bank – pace. China’s coal binging will be more than sufficient to overwhelm the efforts of the entire rest of the world to control carbon emissions. Yet Biden refused to pressure Xi Jinping to honor his commitments on the global warming front.

HR MCMASTER ON BIDEN-XI MEETING: WORLD WILL BE LESS SAFE IF CHINA TAKES OVER

While Biden is at least keeping the Trump tariffs on China for now, he refused to insist Xi honor China’s commitments to agricultural and other purchases agreed to in what was billed in January 2020 as a historic Trump trade agreement. Once again, with China tens of billions of dollars short on it commitments, China has earned its reputation as never following through on any agreement it ever signs.
