The Rhysida ransomware group claimed to have hacked Abdali Hospital, a multi-specialty hospital located in Jordan.

Abdali Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital located in the modern development of Al-Abdali, Amman, Jordan. Abdali Hospital provides care to patients in numerous specialties. Apart from its general surgery section, it has specialists in orthopedics and rheumatology, gynecology, urology and endocrinology, neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, internal medicine, oncology, infectious disease, and anesthesiology. The hospital also offers aesthetic specialties including plastic surgery and dermatology. Finally, there is a women’s health center with a specialty in breast cancer.

The Rhysida ransomware group claimed to have breached the Abdali Hospital in Jordan and added it to the list of victims on its Tor leak site.

The group published images of stolen documents as proof of the hack. Leaked images include ID cards, contracts and more.

“With just 7 days on the clock, seize the opportunity to bid on exclusive, unique, and impressive data. Open your wallets and be ready to buy exclusive data. We sell only to one hand, no reselling, you will be the only owner!” reads the announcement published on the Tor leak site of the Rhysida ransomware group.

The ransomware group claims to have stolen a substantial trove of ‘sensitive data’ and is auctioning it for 10 BTC. As usual, the Rhysida ransomware operators plan to sell the stolen data to a single buyer. The gang will publicly release the data over the seven days following the announcement.

At the end of November, the ransomware group claimed to have hacked King Edward VII’s Hospital in London.

The group also claimed the hack of the British Library and China Energy Engineering Corporation.

Jordan to criminalize VPNs and internet freedoms under new cybercrime law

Internet freedoms are at risk in Jordan under a new proposed cybercrime law. Among other things, the bill plans to criminalize the use of VPN services (in some scenarios) while giving authorities sweeping new powers to censor content online, throttle websites, and block social media.

The 41-article bill comes as a way to “tackle disinformation, hate speech and online defamation,” said the government. It will replace the current legislation’s 15 provisions enforced since 2015. The Parliamentary Legal Committee approved the draft with no substantial changes on July 25—digital rights watchdog Jordan Open Source Association (JOSA) reported.

NCSC urges timely reporting of ransomware attacks | Jordan News

Ammon News – The National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) has issued a call to action for institutions across the country, urging them to immediately report any suspicion of ransomware threats, in light of the recent surge in cyber attacks.

In a statement on Sunday, the Center revealed that numerous institutions targeted by ransomware fail to notify the authorities, thereby violating the Cyber Security Law, which mandates reporting of all cybersecurity breaches to the center.

“This crucial reporting enables the NCSC to take swift and necessary actions to contain the attack, prevent its propagation to other entities within the country, and leverage its resources to aid in the recovery of critical information and services,” the statement added.

Recent findings by the Center indicate a significant surge in ransomware incidents impacting national companies, government entities, academic institutions, and private businesses across Jordan since the start of the current year. Such attacks have severely disrupted their operations, hampering their ability to deliver essential services and, in certain cases, leading to irrecoverable data losses.

The Center highlighted that particularly concerning instances are where entities lack comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Regrettably, the extent of financial losses incurred by these institutions remains difficult to accurately quantify.

Additionally, the NCSC pointed to the existence of a specialized intelligence unit, working in collaboration with other security agencies, to gather and analyze intelligence on cyberattacks originating from international hacking and piracy groups targeting national institutions. This unit possesses the capability to monitor and trace these cyber campaigns, effectively identifying the affected national entities.

Consequently, the Center stresses the utmost importance of timely reporting from all national institutions, as it serves the greater national interest and offers considerable benefits to the victims.

To enforce compliance with cybersecurity protocols, the Cyber Security Law empowers the Center to impose financial penalties on entities found to be non-compliant with reporting regulations….
