President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine arrived in Spain on Thursday to participate in a European summit aimed at strengthening cooperation across the continent amid concerns about waning support for his country as it faces another winter of Russian aggression.

The Ukrainian leader’s trip to the southern Spanish city of Granada came a day after President Biden expressed worries that the recent political turmoil in Congress could disrupt the flow of U.S. aid to Ukraine.

“I think it’s too late for us to worry. I think we have to work on it,” Mr. Zelensky told reporters at the summit when asked if he was concerned about a possible scaling back of U.S. military aid.

He said that he was confident that the United States would continue to support Ukraine’s war efforts, noting that meetings with Mr. Biden and with Congress members last month were positive.

Mr. Zelensky earlier said that the “joint goal” of those gathering in Granada was “to ensure the security and stability of our common European home.”

“We will pay special attention to the Black Sea region as well as our joint efforts to strengthen global food security and freedom of navigation,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Ukraine’s key priority, particularly as winter approaches, is to strengthen air defense.”

E.U. leaders are expected to discuss long-term financial aid for Ukraine at a summit planned later this month in Brussels. On Thursday, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, told reporters in Granada that what Ukraine needed was “predictability and reliability” on direct budget support.

“I’m very confident of support for Ukraine from the United States,” she said. “What the United States is working on is the timing.”

Thursday’s meeting in Grenada comes amid concerns about potential cracks in Europe’s united front on Ukraine, as governments reckon with the economic and political costs of providing long-term support for Kyiv.

It is just the third meeting of the European Political Community, a…

Businesses Must Learn To Live With Ransomware

(MENAFN– Mid-East.Info)

By: Edwin Weijdema, Field CTO EMEA and Lead Cybersecurity Technologist, Veeam.

Last year, 85% of organisations were hit by at least one ransomware attack, according to the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2023. With almost all organisations suffering these attacks, it’s clear that the problem is not only widespread but almost inevitable these days. Though this might sound daunting, it’s by acknowledging this fact that we can manage this ever-present threat. So, let’s look at what solutions organisations can utilise to be able to live alongside ransomware.

Insurance only goes so far:

It’s clear that ransomware attacks are a very real and present threat – we see this every day, whether we’re watching the national news or sitting in the boardroom. Considering the ubiquity of these attacks, organisations need to be aware that a ransomware attack is no longer a case of ‘if’ you’ll be the target of an attack but ‘how often.’ While a vast number of organisations experienced at least one attack last year, the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report also showed that just under half (48%) suffered two or three attacks. This can feel like an overwhelming prospect for an organisation of any size, and the natural consequence is that many turn to cyber insurance in search of some peace of mind.

Cyber insurance may pay for the damage caused by a ransomware attack, but it’s important to remember that it can never prevent or undo this damage or the ripple effect it creates like loss of customers and customer trust. Education and transparency, however, can help prevent ransomware damage, but this is sometimes curtailed by cyber insurance policies.

As ransomware threats have increased, so have the stipulations of cyber insurance providers. The recent Veeam Ransomware Trends Report also found that more than 20% of organisations indicated that ransomware attacks were not covered by their cyber insurance provider, and even when they are covered, some providers stipulate that companies cannot speak publicly about the breach. The unfortunate consequence of this is that it keeps the reality of ransomware attacks – something so common – hidden away as a secret. Hopefully,…

 TriumphPay integrates with Trax Technologies

Transportation spend management platform Trax Technologies has formed a partnership with TriumphPay to allow Trax’s global freight audit solution to integrate with TriumphPay’s payments network for freight brokers, factors, shippers and carriers in the North American trucking industry.

The partnership is part of a minority equity investment by TBK Bank, SSB d/b/a TriumphPay into Trax, which provides software and services that help global shippers better manage the costs and emissions of their logistics networks.

Once the technical integration is complete, all payments made by Trax will be made via the TriumphPay network, providing automated payments, fraud protection, funds security and flexibility in the timing of payments for shippers and carriers across its Fortune 1000 customer base.

NMFTA to host cybersecurity conference

The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) is set to host its annual Digital Solutions Conference October 22-25 in Houston, Texas. The event aims to educate anyone serving the LTL trucking industry about cyber threats as the industry moves toward digitization.

Major topics to be covered at this year’s conference include a review of the cyberthreat landscape facing the trucking industry; current tools and strategies for preventing truck hacking; explaining the IoT (Internet of Things) and how it can leave you vulnerable; how to build a culture of cybersecurity at your company; best practices in API security; exercises to test your company’s preparedness; understanding IT security and OT security; threats from the most basic of sources: email; and securing the right level of cybersecurity insurance to match your need and risk.

The event will kick off with a live truck-hacking demonstration. It includes a multitude of speakers, including cybersecurity experts from the FBI, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Microsoft, Peninsula Truck Lines and more. In addition, the United States Secret Service will make a presentation on cyber assets and cybercrime trends.
