Samsung Galaxy S22 series starts receiving the May 2022 security update


What you need to know

  • Samsung has begun rolling out the May 2022 update to the Galaxy S22 series.
  • The update appears to only include the latest Android security patch.
  • It is currently rolling out to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variants in Asia, and will likely expand in the coming days and weeks.

Samsung has made a habit of updating its flagship smartphones to the latest security patch ahead of other Android devices and often before we enter the corresponding month. May is no different, as the company has already started rolling out the May update to its Galaxy S22 series.

The new update is arriving for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant of the Galaxy S22 series has so far been spotted in several Asian countries, including India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and the Phillippines.

There doesn’t appear to be anything particularly interesting arriving with the update aside from a bump to the latest Android security patch. For now, there are no details on what is included in the patch, although fortunately, the pesky “Dirty Pipe” vulnerability was already patched with the April update.

Samsung Galaxy M62 is receiving Android 12-based One UI 4.1 update


The Samsung Galaxy M62 announced last year with Android 11-based One UI 3.1 is receiving the One UI 4.1 update based on Android 12.

The update brings refreshed design to the Galaxy M62 with the usual Android 12 and One UI 4.1 goodies. It also bumps up the Android security patch level on the smartphone to March 2022.

The new firmware comes with version M625FXXU2BVC3 and is seeding in Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Indonesia, and the UAE. If you haven’t received it yet, you can check for it manually by navigating to your Galaxy M62’s Settings > Software update menu.

Poco X3 Pro is receiving Android 12-based MIUI 13 update in India


Xiaomi’s Poco began the global rollout of Android 12-based MIUI 13 for the Poco X3 Pro earlier this month, and India is the latest market to receive the company’s newest custom Android skin.

The update has version number 13.0.1.0.SJUINXM and requires a download of 3.1GB. It comes with the February 2022 Android security patch and allows apps to be opened as floating windows from the sidebar. The new firmware also enhances the accessibility support for the Phone, Clock, and Weather apps.

However, the source claims that the MIUI 13 update is currently only seeding to X3 Pro units enrolled in the Mi Pilot program, so if you are not a part of it, you’ll have to wait for Poco to release the update for everyone.

Huawei Mate X2 foldable phone receiving HarmonyOS 2.0.0.221 update


Recently, Huawei has released the latest January 2022 security patch details for the HarmonyOS system that protect the device against threats. Now, there is a huge number of Huawei devices running on HarmonyOS 2.0 software in the Chinese market.

In December 2021, Huawei completed the HarmonyOS rollout to eligible devices including the very old flagship Mate 9 and P10. Currently, HarmonyOS 2.0 software system is limited to the Chinese market.

Earlier, it was reported that Huawei will debut HarmonyOS for the global consumer in 2022. But, we have received an official reply from Huawei on this matter, the company clearly mentioned that currently, there is no plan for smartphones outside China to upgrade to HarmonyOS. Read more

Yes! this news is really disappointing but global users do not need to worry because Huawei is currently delaying the HarmonyOS plan due to some reasons. Until then, you can enjoy EMUI 12 that comes with HarmonyOS vibes.

On the other hand, on December 23, 2021, at the Huawei flagship launch conference, Huawei CBG CEO – Richard Yu announced that HarmonyOS reached 300 million devices among them 200 million is from Huawei and 100 million third parties.

To be mentioned, there are a lot of activities going inside Huawei including preparation for the next version, HarmonyOS 3.0. But, it doesn’t affect the monthly software and security update rollout for its devices.

HarmonyOS 2.0 January 2022 security patch:

The January 2022 security patch brings fixes for 1 high and 3 medium level CVE in the framework, 5 high and 5 medium levels of CVEs in the system, 3 high and 2 medium levels of CVEs in the application. However, it doesn’t resolve any CVE in the kernel this time.

Likewise, it fixes a massive count of 111 CVEs found in the third-party libraries. If the security patch of your Huawei phone or tablet is 2022-01-01 or later, all issues described in this update and the HarmonyOS Security Bulletin – January 2022 have been resolved.
