T-Mobile’s Legere ‘rescues’ volunteer fire department, sticks finger in Verizon’s eye

Ever a social-media showman and tormenter of his competitors, T-Mobile CEO John Legere last night took to Twitter to lambaste Verizon’s decision to ding a volunteer fire company for $ 73,000 and offered to pick up that tab himself if necessary.

And we don’t even know if the ponies played a part.

Legere made his pledge on Twitter in response to yesterday’s Buzzblog post about a tiff between Verizon and the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, which serves an island town of 3,000 in Virginia and is renowned for being caretakers of a herd of 150 wild horses, the Chincoteague Ponies, that has been the subject of a popular children’s book and movie. Legere’s tweet:

Writer rescues Verizon customer in distress

A Virginia woman writes to Christopher Elliott, an author, journalist and consumer advocate who gets results:

Help! Verizon lost the cable boxes and remotes I returned to it via UPS after I moved out of my apartment. Now it’s trying to stick me with a $ 2,000 bill, even though UPS tracking showed it had been delivered, and even though the Verizon representative I spoke to agreed and updated my account to show that they had received the equipment.

Here’s the problem: I discarded the UPS tracking information after speaking with the Verizon rep in early December, never dreaming that it would come back to haunt me on my January bill.

U.S. Border Patrol agents helped rescue five illegal aliens from a tight cross-border tunnel in California on Nov. 2, after the lead man in the group got stuck in tunnel’s exit in the U.S.

Borders gents apprehended five illegal aliens from the tunnel near Otay Mesa, CA, that originated in Mexico and branched of an abandoned gas line near the U.S. port of entry.
