Uzbekistan’s web resources face over 11.2 mn cyber attacks in 2023 — Daryo News

In the realm of cybersecurity, Uzbekistan faced a significant challenge last year, with more than 11.2 mn cyber attacks targeting web resources within the country. This statistic was revealed by the Center for Cyber Security, shedding light on the growing threat landscape faced by the nation’s digital infrastructure.

An analysis of the geographical origins of these cyber attacks in 2023 revealed some notable trends. The Netherlands emerged as a prominent source, with 759.5 thousand attacks originating from IP addresses in the region. Following closely behind were the United States, Russia, Germany, India, and China, each contributing significantly to the volume of cyber threats faced by Uzbekistan.

Delving deeper into the nature of these attacks, it became evident that various vulnerabilities in web resources served as entry points for cybercriminals. Among the identified vulnerabilities were:

  • Lack of verification and filtering of user content: This oversight allowed malicious actors to exploit weaknesses in the system, enabling them to inject harmful content or execute unauthorized actions.
  • Coding vulnerabilities: Vulnerabilities in PHP plugins and other coding frameworks provided avenues for attackers to exploit flaws in the underlying code, compromising the integrity and security of web applications.
  • Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerabilities: CSRF attacks leveraged the trust between a user’s browser and a web application to execute unauthorized actions on behalf of the user, often leading to data breaches or unauthorized transactions.
  • Weak password protection: Inadequate password policies and weak authentication mechanisms made it easier for attackers to gain unauthorized access to sensitive accounts and data.

Until April 15, 2022, Uzbekistan lacked a specific law addressing cybersecurity issues. However, various laws already in effect touched upon general cybersecurity matters related to telecommunications and internet security. The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. RK-764, enacted on April 15, 2022, marked the country’s first comprehensive legislation dedicated…

Election security threats require more federal resources, officials say

State and local election officials warned during a Senate Rules and Administration Committee hearing on Wednesday that nefarious uses of emerging technologies, hacking attempts and the harassment of election workers risk undermining the public’s faith in the accuracy of U.S. elections without more federal intervention.

Since the 2020 presidential election, Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said his state has live-streamed equipment certifications to promote transparency and worked with the National Association of Secretaries of State and federal agencies to instill trust in the voting process. But he added that “there’s still more that can be done” at the federal level, including providing local jurisdictions with more election-related funding and guidance to safeguard their systems and personnel.

He said artificial intelligence, for instance, “has the potential to confuse voters and wreak havoc on the administration of elections,” including allowing deepfakes of election officials to spread misinformation on social media.

“If I were to go on TV afterwards, or even Instagram Live, to debunk these deepfakes, who would know which was the real me?” he added. “Foreign actors from hostile states such as Iran, China, Russia and North Korea appear ready to take advantage of this nightmare scenario.”

Lingering conspiracies about the accuracy of U.S. elections are also resulting in new challenges for election officials. Some jurisdictions are being overwhelmed with what Fontes called “analog” distributed denial-of-service — or DDoS — attacks, which he said “comes in overly voluminous and unnecessary public records requests that have absolutely nothing at their end.”

“We hear of a DDoS attack against an electronic system where hackers will come in and absolutely flood a system with digital attacks,” Fontes said, adding that he supports rigorous transparency but that these types of constant requests often represent “a coordinated effort to undermine the democracy that upholds our republic.”

While not all officials at the hearing voiced support for more federal involvement in the voting process or expressed concerns about the intimidation of election…

If you regularly follow food trends on the internet, you might have seen some videos about using office resources to create a dessert! We found two videos on Instagram – one on ‘travel_with_priyanka_’ in collaboration with ‘the_glowing_glory’ and another on ‘_riyaa_20’ with ‘ishika.jaiswal.3762’.

Both videos show similar ways to use office resources to make a mug cake in no time. All you have to do is take a small biscuit pack and crush it with your hands. Then open the pack and pour the crumbled biscuits into a mug. Add some milk, sugar and fruit salt and mix everything together well. Then pop it in the microwave oven to bake it. It should not take more than 5 minutes. Your freshly baked biscuit mug cake will be ready to be enjoyed any time during office breaks. Genius, right?
