Sun Pharma Revenues Take a Shot due to Major Ransomware Attack

Sun Pharma, one of India’s leading pharmaceutical companies, has recently admitted that its operations and revenues have been impacted by a cyberattack on its IT assets that occurred on 2nd March.

Initially, the company stated that the incident did not impact its core systems and operations. However, a recent filing to the stock exchange reveals that the attack did have an impact on the company’s business operations and revenue.

The company has taken containment measures and isolated its network while initiating the recovery process but admits that some of its businesses will experience reduced revenues as a result of the attack.

This incident involved a breach of certain systems and theft of company and personal data. A ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The company has not been able to determine the full extent of the impact, including the possibility of additional security incidents, increased insurance costs, diversion of management and employee time, or the potential for litigation.

Sun Pharma’s recent cyberattack is the latest in a series of IT security breaches faced by pharmaceutical companies. Last year, Novartis was reportedly targeted by the hacking group Industrial Spy, which runs a marketplace of stolen data. Fortunately, Novartis managed to avoid any sensitive data being compromised.

AstraZeneca faced a similar security incident in November 2022 when some of its records were left exposed online due to a user error. Credentials for an internal server were mistakenly left on a code-sharing site, leading to the exposure of sensitive patient data for over a year.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder that no company or industry is immune to cyber threats. With the healthcare industry being the most targeted sector in India, pharmaceutical companies must remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to protect their IT assets and data.

Sun Pharma ended Monday 1.15% up at Rs983.95 on the BSE, while the 30-share Sensex closed marginally higher at 57,653.86 points.

Man With Ax Shot and Killed By Security Guard Outside Chicago Weed Dispensary – NBC Chicago

A man wielding an ax was shot and killed by a security guard outside of a weed dispensary in Chicago on Labor Day, authorities said.

Police said the incident happened just after 10 a.m. in the 200 block of South Halsted, when a man got into a verbal altercation outside of a business with a 37-year-old man working security.

The man ultimately began swinging an ax at the security guard before striking him in the leg.

“A struggle ensued and the victim fired shots, striking the offender,” police said in a statement.

The man with the ax was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man working security was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, authorities said.

An investigation remained ongoing.

“This morning outside Zen Leaf on Halsted Street, an individual attacked a contracted third party security guard with a weapon outside the dispensary. Both individuals were taken to hospitals with serious injuries,” the dispensary told NBC 5 in a statement.

The dispensary added that it will be closed for the remainder of the holiday as police continued their investigation.

Sources close to the investigation told NBC 5 the ax-wielding man may have been a disgruntled customer.

Woman Shot After Opening Fire Inside Dallas Love Field Airport – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

What to Know

  • Gunfire was reported inside Dallas Love Field Airport just after 11 a.m.
  • A woman was transported from the scene by Dallas Fire-Rescue after police say she fired several rounds inside the airport.
  • Rockwall Chief of Police Max Geron was in the TSA security line and told NBC 5 he heard several shots near a ticket counter.

A woman pulled out a gun inside Dallas Love Field Airport late Monday morning and began shooting toward the ceiling, Dallas police say. The woman, who witnesses said was yelling about her marriage, was confronted and shot by officers. No other injuries have been reported.

Dallas Chief of Police Eddie Garcia said the woman, identified only as a 37-year-old, was dropped off at the airport just before 11 a.m. and that once inside she went into a restroom and changed clothes.

Garcia said the woman exited the restroom wearing a hoody or something other than what she arrived in, pulled out a gun and started firing several shots. Most of the shots, Garcia said, appeared to be directed toward the ceiling.

“At this point, we don’t know where exactly the individual was aiming. From what we are seeing she was aiming at the ceiling,” Garcia said. ” There are several rounds that were found.”

Officers inside the airport confronted the woman and shot her in her lower extremities. The woman was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in an unknown condition. No further information about her or the motivation behind the shooting or who dropped her off at the airport has been confirmed by police.

Cell phone video shared with NBC 5 showed travelers on the ground, behind chairs at the gates and sheltering in place while the shooting unfolded.

The investigation is ongoing and Garcia said he expects elements to change as more is learned about what happened. Dallas Police said they do not plan to release any other statements until Tuesday afternoon. Agents with the Dallas FBI’s field office were seen at the airport along with Dallas Police. The FAA told NBC 5 that the incident is a police matter.

DeadBolt ransomware takes another shot at QNAP storage • The Register

QNAP is warning users about another wave of DeadBolt ransomware attacks against its network-attached storage (NAS) devices – and urged customers to update their devices’ QTS or QuTS hero operating systems to the latest versions.

The latest outbreak – detailed in a Friday advisory – is at least the fourth campaign by the DeadBolt gang against the vendor’s users this year. According to QNAP officials, this particular run is encrypting files on NAS devices running outdated versions of Linux-based QTS 4.x, which presumably have some sort of exploitable weakness.

The previous attacks occurred in January, March, and May.

Taiwan-based QNAP recommended enterprises whose NAS system have “already been compromised, take the screenshot of the ransom note to keep the bitcoin address, then, upgrade to the latest firmware version and the built-in Malware Remover application will automatically quarantine the ransom note which hijacks the login page.”

They should contact QNAP Assistance if they want to input a decryption key given by the attackers but are unable to find the ransom note after upgrading the firmware.

The cybercriminals behind DeadBolt primarily target NAS devices. QNAP systems are the main targets, though in February the group attacked NAS devices from Asustor, a subsidiary of systems maker Asus, said analysts with cybersecurity firm Trend Micro.

QNAP and its customers are examples of a growing interest by cybercriminals in NAS, Trend Micro wrote in a January report. Businesses are relying more on the Internet of Things (IoT) for constant connectivity, workflow continuity and access to data, the analysts said.

“Cybercriminals have taken notice of this dependence and now regularly update their known tools and routines to include network-attached storage (NAS) devices to their list of targets, knowing full well that users rely on…
