Ivanti, the remote-access company whose remote-access products have been battered by severe exploits in recent months, has pledged a “new era,” one that “fundamentally transforms the Ivanti security operating model” backed by “a significant investment” and full board support.

CEO Jeff Abbott’s open letter promises to revamp “core engineering, security, and vulnerability management,” make all products “secure by design,” formalize cyber-defense agency partnerships, and “sharing information and learning with our customers.” Among the details is the company’s promise to improve search abilities in Ivanti’s security resources and documentation portal, “powered by AI,” and an “Interactive Voice Response system” for routing calls and alerting customers about security issues, also “AI-powered.”

Ivanti CEO Jeff Abbott addresses the company’s “broad shift” in its security model.

Ivanti and Abbott seem to have been working on this presentation for a while, so it’s unlikely they could have known it would arrive just days after four new vulnerabilities were disclosed for its Connect Secure and Policy Secure gateway products, two of them rated for high severity. Those vulnerabilities came two weeks after two other vulnerabilities, rated critical, with remote code execution. And those followed “a three-week spree of non-stop exploitation” in early February, one that left security directors scrambling to patch and restore services or, as federal civilian agencies did, rebuild their servers from scratch.

Because Ivanti makes VPN products that have been widely used in large organizations, including government agencies, it’s a rich target for threat actors and a target that’s seemed particularly soft in recent years. Ivanti’s Connect Secure, a VPN appliance often abbreviated as ICS, functions as a gatekeeper that allows authorized devices to connect.

Due to its wide deployment and always-on status, an ICS has been a…

How A Mobile Network Aims To Transform The Security Market

Time was, a mobile phone network would promise good coverage for calls and texts and that was that. Things have changed, and the latest announcement from EE, the biggest mobile network in the U.K., shows how. The company has just revealed partnerships with Norton and Verisure.

EE Smart Home Security is a 24/7 monitored home alarm package, installed by Verisure security engineers and monitored 24 hours a day by Verisure’s Alarm Receiving Center, which allows customers to speak to the Alarm Center at any time through an SOS feature. This is different from self-monitored set-ups and the company claims a target response time of 60 seconds.

There are two bundles. One is aimed at flats and apartments, which costs $29 (£25) a month and the other for houses, which is $35 (£30) a month. Each has a one-off upfront fee of $58 (£50). The main difference is that the house package has extra shock sensors designed to detect intruders before they enter the home. Additionally, house package subscribers can upgrade with…

CommScope partners with Microsoft to help transform industrial manufacturing

CommScope announced that it has collaborated with Microsoft to create a converged private wireless network solution, enabling new low-latency and mobile applications to transform industrial manufacturing.

CommScope successfully deployed the combined solution—using Microsoft Azure private MEC and CommScope CBRS access points—in its own manufacturing innovation center in Shakopee, Minnesota. Through this cloud-connected, low-latency private wireless network, CommScope is already improving both the operational efficiency and manufacturing agility of its facilities.

This solution brings augmented reality applications and cloud-based manufacturing tools to factory engineers. This includes immersive technology training, aggregated assembly line data, and real-time remote assistance to improve production ramp times and worker capabilities. CommScope also leverages its low-latency wireless network to mobilize testing equipment across the production line. As an example, specialized microscopes are now mobilized so fiber optic quality testing can be done anywhere in real time as opposed to pulling product off the line.

“CommScope is excited to work with Microsoft to enable the next generation of private wireless networks,” said Upendra Pingle, SVP Intelligent Cellular Networks, CommScope. “We have deployed Microsoft’s private MEC platform in combination with CBRS access points in our own manufacturing innovation center to improve operational efficiencies. Together, we are showcasing the immediate, real-world advantages of private networking in industrial manufacturing, as our combined solution paves the way for the evolution of private wireless networks and manufacturing.”

“We see a tremendous opportunity to transform workforce efficiency by making it easy to deploy and develop private wireless that can underpin agile factories,” said Shriraj Gaglani, GM for Azure for Operators at Microsoft. “We collaborated with CommScope to implement use cases that increase worker and production line efficiency, and to help incubate and inspire industry 4.0 transformations.”
