Iranian protesters urge Albania to close down camp hosting MKO terrorists

Dozens of Iranian protesters and relatives of members of the terrorist Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) have called upon Albanian authorities to shut down a camp that hosts anti-Iran elements and make preparation for the repatriation of their family members.

Demonstrators and members of the independent civil society organization Nejat Society converged outside the Turkish embassy in downtown Tehran, which represents Albania’s interests in the Islamic Republic, and appreciated the latest raids by Albanian police forces on the Ashraf-3 camp in the northwest of the capital Tirana.

They underlined that the camp serves as a place, where malicious plots and cyber attacks are being orchestrated, and various forms of money laundering and human rights abuse are being carried out.

The protesters released a communiqué during the gathering, asking Albanian authorities to shut down the camp and put the notorious ringleaders of the MKO terrorist cult on trial.

The relatives of MKO members also urged the Albanian government not to allow leaders of the cult to use their loved ones as human shields against security forces.

They also asked Albanian officials not to fall into the psychological warfare trap of the MKO and let the terrorists abuse them, as the cult is enormously hated by the entire Iranian nation and even opponents of the Islamic establishment.

Security experts urge Chrome users to patch new zero-day exploit immediately

What just happened? Google just released an emergency security update to patch a newly discovered vulnerability in the Chrome web browser. The buffer overflow-based exploit was discovered by Clément Lecigne, a member of the Google Threat Analysis Group (TAG). Google acknowledged the issue and pledged to withhold further details about the vulnerability until the patch has been widely deployed.

The new vulnerability, categorized as CVE-2022-4135, is a heap buffer overflow issue in the GPU that can result in malicious actors gaining unauthorized access to information, induce application instability, or potentially provide permission to execute arbitrary code on the target machine.

Google’s TAG acknowledged the vulnerability in a recent stable channel update that was deployed to prevent further exploitation. Google engineers updated stable channel 107.0.5304.121 for Mac and Linux systems as well as channel 107.0.5304.121/.122 for Windows-based systems. A list of all associated updates and release notes can be found in Chromium’s release logs.

The finding marks the software giant’s eighth zero-day vulnerability of 2022. Previously patched vulnerabilities included:

The heap overflow can provide attackers with the ability to augment functional pointers within an application, instead pointing them toward arbitrarily deployed malicious code. The condition is the result of a buffer overwrite in the heap portion of a system’s memory.

Google’s decision not to immediately share the exploit’s details is a standard practice intended to minimize the vulnerability’s use and impact. By slowing the understanding and awareness of the vulnerability’s details, users have more time to patch and update their browsers before the exploit can be leveraged. It also provides developers of heavily used third-party libraries with the ability to patch the vulnerability, further limiting exploitability.

“Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix. We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third-party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven’t yet fixed.” – Prudhvikumar Bommana

Mass. Officials Urge Safety in the Water This Summer – NBC Boston

With the unofficial start of summer quickly approaching, the water becomes a big attraction to cool off, and anyone can disappear in a second.

“Very nerve-wracking,” said Natasha Cacciatore, a mom of two. “You hear horror stories every summer, it’s one of my biggest fears.”

Safety around the water is something she thinks about all the time.

“We play by the rules,” she said. “We make sure there’s an adult around at all times when you go near the water.”

But every summer, perfect beach days too often become tragic, with many drownings taking place in pools, ponds, lakes and the ocean.

In Massachusetts, there were more than 50 drownings in 2021.

“Be a good partner,” said Jeanne Benincasa Thorpe, the state’s undersecretary for homeland security at the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. “Good steward to those folks who are around you, whether they’re yours or not, we’re all mothers and parents, and I understand that sometimes we lose track, if we see something, say something.”

State officials are reminding people to swim in designated areas only, not to swim alone, and to speak up the moment someone may be missing.

A Memorial Day cookout will probably cost a lot more this year.

Sixteen DCR beaches will be opening up on Saturday with lifeguards on the weekends.

More beaches will open up in the weeks ahead with lifeguards seven days a week.

“We’re excited to invite the public to come out to our waterfronts,” said Stephanie Cooper, acting commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. “And if people follow the rules, follow the advice, they’ll be safe.”

Experts urge bank customers not to release sensitive information to avoid cyber attack

Experts in the nation’s financial technology industry have cautioned companies and banks customers to be careful in managing sensitive information to avoid  cyber crime attack.

Experts who spoke at webinar organised by the First Bank of Nigeria Limited highlighted the effects of the war between Ukraine and Russia on the Cyberspace insisting  that cyber terrorism is real.

They also warned bank customers not to give their ATM to anybody for transactions as the pin would  be compromised on the process.

Chief Information Security Officer, First Bank of Nigeria, Mr Harrison Nnaji said while advancement in technology will have positive application for the protection of individuals in armed conflict, new means and methods of warfare and  the way they are employed can also pose new threat to individuals.

Nnaji who spoke on “Russia – Ukraine Conflict: It’s impact in the Cyber Space, how it affect you” said currently the war between Russia and Ukraine remained intense and cyber space has continued to be a secondary battlefield.

He said during cyber warfare cyber criminals target person’s as persistently as they go after large business and organisations,  leaving millions of potential targets vulnerable to cyber attacks.

Highlighting some of the effects of cyber warfare on countries and global economy, he said during wars and conflicts, there are usually heightened tension and increased risks of cyber attack.

He said Cyber Security Ventures expected the cost of global cyber crime to grow by 15 per cent per year over the next five years, reaching $10.5 trillion annually by 2025, up from $3 trillion in 2015.

This according to him represents the greatest transfer of economic wealth in history, risks the incentives for innovation and investment, it is exponentially larger than the damage inflicted from natural disasters in a year and will be more profitable than global trade of all major illegal drugs combined.
