Federal prosecutors alleged that a Leesburg, VA man, acted as an agent of the Syrian government and gathered information on Syrians in the U.S. who were protesting the country’s regime.

The officials charged Mohamad Anas Haitham Soueid, 47, for his alleged role in a conspiracy this past summer to collect video and audio recordings and other information about the U.S. protestors and provide them to Syrian intelligence agencies to silence, intimidate and potentially harm them.
