Some data from the Des Moines Public Schools District is in the hands of hackers after a district-paralyzing ransomware attack last month.

The district says it’s now working to determine exactly what was exposed – and who was impacted.

District leaders would not say if they paid a ransom in the attack.

DMPS took its systems offline on Jan. 9, and canceled classes for two days after discovering the attack.

The district says if your data was impacted, it will let you know by mail.

“If we learn that information about you has been taken from our systems, we are going to let you know as soon as possible and as soon as we can,” Superintendent Matt Williams said.

The district did not say what data may have been exposed. It says it could be months before the attack is fully resolved.
