Ransomware Group Leaks Over 1.3 Million Files In Insomniac Hack

A week after ransomware group Rhysida published that it had successfully hacked into Insomniac Games and taken information, the group has published over 1.3 million files online for anyone to grab.

The full leak took place on Monday night after the group said that no buyer was willing to pay the $2 million asking price. In total, the data came in at nearly 1.7 terabytes in size.

As far as information leaked in the Insomniac hack, it ranged from game release dates and spoilers for the upcoming Wolverine game to sensitive employee information. According to Cyber Daily, that sensitive information includes internal employee HR documents, tax information, internal company messages, computer information, termination forms, and even passport details.

Also included in the data leak are contracts signed between Sony and Marvel regarding the development and publishing of X-Men games, starting with the aforementioned Wolverine title. The document was signed by both Sony’s Jim Ryan and Marvel’s Isaac Perlmutter, and went into effect as of July 2021.

In a message given to Cyber Daily, the organization said it had intentionally targetted the company, and said that it “knew developers making games like this were an easy target”. They added that it didn’t take much effort to get into the studio’s network for the data.

Insider Gaming has reached out to both Sony and Insomniac Games for comment on the leaks. As of writing, neither party has responded.

Ransomware Gang Leaks 43GB Of Boeing Data After Demand To Pay Up Doesn’t Fly

boeing has files leaked by lockbit ransomware gang

The Lockbit ransomware group has breached a number of high-profile organizations and companies, such as TSMC in Taiwan, which is effectively the global leader in silicon production. Most recently, though, the international aeronautic and telecommunications company Boeing seemingly fell victim to the group, and subsequently failed to pay ransom. As such, Lockbit has since published the data, which totals 43GBs.

Toward the end of October, the Lockbit group posted that they had compromised Boeing and made off with a significant amount of sensitive data. The deadline to complete negotiations was November 2nd before the group would leak said data. At first, it seemed that Boeing was engaging with the threat actors after the listing was pulled down. However, Boeing was relisted on November 7th, and six days later, the data was published.

The data, which is now available through Lockbit’s website, includes what appears to be primarily backup files from a handful of different systems, such as Citrix Xen Desktop, Ivanti Service Management, and others. We have not gone through what is available, but this sort of information provides threat actors invaluable insights into the inner workings of Boeing’s network. With that, other threat actors might have an easier time getting into Boeing, especially if any new relevant vulnerabilities crop up in the future.

At the end of the day, this is only one breach in a long list of breaches, especially from LockBit, as these sorts of threat actors work to outpace efforts to prevent the attacks. In this case, though, we hope the Boeing breach will serve as a good reminder to the company and others to stay on top of cybersecurity, to prevent future attacks due to leaked internal infrastructure knowledge. We will have to see, so stay tuned to HotHardware for coverage of Boeing’s breach and other cybersecurity events.

Ransomware Gang Leaks Plastic Surgery Pics In Extortion Attempt

A ransomware gang released what it says are nude patient photos as part of an effort to extort a Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon.

The group, known as Hunters International, shared four sample photographs to its site on the dark web along with a post about the targeted doctor and his privacy policy.

“Patients of Mr. Schwartz’s clinics are top management of various organizations, bloggers, businessmen, influencers and other ‘not ordinary’ individuals,” the post said. “Mr. Schwartz charges $500 for the initial appointment. ‘As our patient, we want you to know that we respect the privacy of your personal medical information and will do all we can to secure and protect your privacy.’”

In a follow-up post, the group stated that it was preparing to release patient emails before calling on the surgeon to “contact us ASAP.”

The post also suggests that the hack could include more than 248,000 files in total. The clinic has offices in both Beverly Hills and Dubai,

The Daily Dot located what appears to be the website for the doctor in question but did not receive a response after reaching out for questioning. Examination of the doctor’s social media profiles do not mention the alleged hack.

As noted by Brett Callow, a threat analyst for the cybersecurity firm Emsisoft, the FBI cautioned just last week that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting plastic surgery clinics.

“The FBI is warning the public about cybercriminals who target plastic surgery offices, surgeons thereof, and patients to harvest personally identifiable information and sensitive medical records, to include sensitive photographs in some instances,” the FBI said. “Once successful, cybercriminals use social engineering techniques to enhance the harvested data and extort individuals for cryptocurrency.”

The alleged hack by Hunters International would not be the first such clinic to be extorted by ransomware gangs.

The cybercrime group ALPHV, commonly referred to as BlackCat, threatened in June to release photos from another clinic in Beverly Hills as well. And in late 2020, the cybercrime gang REvil similarly threatened to release patient photos after…
