About the Open Source Security Summit

The free and virtual Open Source Security Summit is a forum to explore the intersection of open source and security. Building on the previous three Summits, this year’s event will continue the conversation with cross-industry experts and dive deeper into why open source solutions lead to better security outcomes, as well as how using open source tools can build trust with customers and consumers.

The event kicked off in 2020, with the conversation centered around cybersecurity and credential management – a critical first line of defense for individuals and companies to mitigate cyberattacks. Subsequent events expanded to cover the topic in-depth, with attendees and business stakeholders discussing their open source strategies, challenges, and efforts to make open source security understandable to both software developers and users.

Guam Army National Guard hosts Guam Cybersecurity Summit > Andersen Air Force Base > Features

On Nov. 6-7, 2023, representatives from local and national agencies have visited the University of Guam lecture hall and gymnasium to partake in the 2024 Central Pacific Cybersecurity Summit.

“Over the next two days, we are going to lean on one another, exchange ideas, and use our collective expertise to fortify our island and our regions’ ability to not only respond but to recover from a cybersecurity attack,” said Lou Leon Guerrero, governor of Guam. “Because to simply say it’s a priority is an understatement. It is mission-critical to our island’s defense and our nation’s defense that we get this done.”

The goal is to execute a whole-of-government and community approach by providing opportunities for several different local and national agencies to communicate, exchange and strengthen strategies and ideas that will bolster the different levels of cybersecurity, while also deterring adversaries and promoting integrated deterrence.

“We recognize the vulnerability and weaknesses of our cybersecurity program, so we came up with the Central Pacific Cybersecurity summit to gather all the experts that can help us solidify and prevent future cyber-attacks,” Leon Guerrero said. “We want to protect and make a solid plan of actions to strengthen our cybersecurity and cybersecurity deterrence.”

Agencies such as U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), U.S. Cyber Command (USCC), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), FBI, Guam Homeland and Civil Defense, Guam Office of Technology (OTECH), public utilities, internet service providers, Joint Region Marianas (JRM), Andersen Air Force Base, Marine Corp Base Camp Blaz, U.S. Coast Guard and more attended the summit sharing information and resources they had to offer.

Jennilyn LaBrunda, CISA cybersecurity advisor, discussed the resources available on the CISA website. Adam Dickinson and Robert Schuett of Google Mandiant, discussed the performance of Intelligence Led Security.

“This is just one of many ways that we can combine the efforts of our friends to come up with a unified plan to address every evolving threat of cyber-attacks.” said…

AFR Cyber Summit Australia 2023

Good morning ladies and gents.

I’ll start by thanking the Australian Financial Review for putting this together and in advance thanking Paul for the very soft questions he’s going to ask me on stage after I finish, and also the sponsors in the white box over there without whose support we wouldn’t be able to have times like this.

For me, there are few more important things than listening, learning and planning as a group.

Let me start with a slightly self-indulgent story.

When I was around eight years old, I remember coming from school and seeing a large white book sitting on the front verandah of my parents’ house on the Gold Coast. The book was the White Pages and included most of my community’s personal information, conveniently in alphabetical order for ease of reference. Names, addresses and phone numbers for everyone.

My dad had a corner store where I saw people signing cheques – a promise on paper, with a signature unique to the customer. Society functioned on trust. But our horizons have expanded. We are fearful of our information being public – and perhaps so we should be given the risks it inspires.

This is the great irony of the Information Age – the very technologies that empower us to create incredible things also benefit those who seek to disrupt and destroy. One of our benefits
our ability to communicate through the internet, is also one of our greatest vulnerabilities. It’s this vulnerability I have been asked to work to mitigate.

I’ve been in the role of National Cyber Security Coordinator for a little under three months. Today I want to convey my initial perspectives and update you on what I have been doing since the Prime Minister announced my appointment on 23 June this year.

This morning the Minister the Honourable Clare O’Neil, outlined her broad vision for the National Cyber Security Strategy, giving you an initial glimpse into the Shields we will seek to erect on the path towards 2030.

The desired end state is clear: in just seven years, we will be a world leading cyber secure nation. But it won’t be easy. When things are changing – like they are in cyber security
you need to think big, pull lead, take measured…

HSI Baltimore speaks to high school coaches, athletic directors at national high school champions’ summit

WASHINGTON — Special agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore addressed a crowd of high school coaches and athletic directors from across the country at the inaugural Inner Circle of High School Athletics Leadership Summit at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. on June 23.

The summit featured a collection of guest speakers, including former professional athletes, professional sports executives and community leaders.

“HSI Baltimore was pleased to participate in the high school leadership summit,” said HSI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge James C. Harris. “We had the opportunity to address the men and women responsible for guiding the next generation of leaders. As law enforcement officials, we share with these coaches a responsibility to set an example for young people. It is truly an honor to be able to contribute in such a forum.”

The summit focused on providing these coaches and athletic directors with information and tools they can use to prepare their student athletes for the next phase in their athletic and professional careers.

Speakers addressed a variety of topics that coaches don’t usually have the opportunity to address during practice, including financial management, mental health, physical fitness, academics and internet safety. The special agents from HSI Baltimore spoke to the crowd about the potential pitfalls of social media.

“Many of the topics discussed are not necessarily lessons that athletes learn in practice or by competing in games,” said HSI Baltimore Assistant Special Agent in Charge Freddie Taylor. “Still, they address challenges that young competitors will have to face off of the field. Coaches hold a position of trust among their young athletes, and often times, they are best suited to have these conversations with their players.”

The summit was an invitation-only event. Attendees were coaches and athletic directors of high schools from across the nation whose programs had won sports championships within the last six years.

According to the hosts of the summit, its primary goal was to present content that tackles foundational elements that can determine the current and future quality of life for…
