Funniest video about Boston winter — e-vah — gets booted off YouTube; maker ‘bummed’

At this point you’ll have to take my word that it was the funniest video about the #snowpocalypse ever, because the work — entitled “Facebook Statuses About the Boston Snowstorm With Sad Civil War Fiddle Music” — has fallen victim to a copyright takedown after being featured here last week.

Seems the sad Civil War fiddle music, Ashokan Farewell, was not recorded during the Civil War but recently enough to still belong to Swinging Door Music, which near as I can tell means Jay Ungar, the song’s composer.

Funniest video about Boston winter e-vah

I’d pay good money to watch Ken Burns watch this hilarious YouTube video: “Facebook Statuses About the Boston Snowstorm With Sad Civil War Fiddle Music.” (Some NSFW language.)

Thanks, Safety Whale Comedy Collective; we needed that.

One of the voices on the video, actor and filmmaker Harry Aspinwall, tells me the back story via email: “My friend Luke Palmer made it after I wrote the final quote, about eating dogs and so on, as a Facebook status. He commented by posting Ashokan Farewell (the fiddle piece, which has been used in Ken Burns’ stuff about the Civil War) and it sort of went from there. He got me to record the male voices.”

Would you be on Project Insight kill list from ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’?

The Captain America sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, made $ 92 million the weekend it debuted, 4-4-14, far exceeding the $ 65 million the original film grossed on its opening weekend. None of those dollars were mine, and I’m a big fan of save-the-world heroes like those featured in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers, so I finally went to see the movie.
