May Security Update Now Available For The Galaxy Note 20 In The US

Samsung‘s Galaxy Note 20 phones are now starting to receive the May 2021 Android security patch in the US. The new update is rolling out for both carries and unlocked models of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. According to a SamMobile report, the update is available on networks like Verizon, Comcast, Xfinity Mobile, and Bluegrass Cellular, which is now a part of the Verizon family. The new software should also reach Galaxy Note 20 units on other networks in the coming days if it hasn’t already.

The May update for the Galaxy Note 20 series in the US bears the firmware version N981U1UES2DUD5 and N986U1UES2DUD5 for the vanilla Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra respectively. We don’t have a changelog yet but it should pack the same camera and Quick Share improvements that were part of the May update for the international variants of the phone, along with the latest security fixes, of course.

That camera improvement introduces a new Dual Recording feature. As the name suggests, this feature lets you record videos from both the front camera and the primary rear camera at the same time. The Galaxy S20 also received the same improvements with this month’s security update.

Talking about security, this month’s patch contains fixes for three critical vulnerabilities found on Android OS. It also fixes dozens of moderate and high-risk vulnerabilities. On top of that, the May security update for Samsung devices also patches 23 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. SVEs are security vulnerabilities that are specific to Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

The SVE items patched with this release include arbitrary app installation in Knox Core, improper protection of backup path configuration in Samsung Dex, authentication bypass in S Secure, and more.
