Bugcrowd Expands Pen Testing Solutions with New Platform Services

SAN FRANCISCO, June 6, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Bugcrowd, the leader in crowdsourced security, today announced a significant expansion of its Penetration Testing as a Service (PTaaS) product line to include new offerings—Basic Pen Test and Standard Pen Test—purpose built for today’s digital business where continuous testing must keep pace with continuous and agile development. These strategic additions expand the use cases covered by Bugcrowd’s PTaaS suite to cover the gamut of customer needs, from basic assurance for simple web apps and networks to continuous, crowd-powered testing of complex apps, cloud services, mobile apps, APIs, and IoT devices for maximum risk reduction.

Most pen test providers today offer cumbersome, ad hoc consulting offerings that do not identify all risks and are hard to execute at scale in a consistent and configurable way for buyers as well as pentesters themselves. PTaaS solutions have emerged to address these issues, but most don’t go far enough—only Bugcrowd delivers a modern, platform-powered approach, enabling organizations to keep innovating without compromising security.

With Bugcrowd’s expanded PTaaS product line, pen test buyers now have an option for meeting every requirement, and for every asset type:

  • Basic Pen Tests for rapid, basic vulnerability discovery and reporting
  • Standard Pen Tests for easy-to-launch, compliance-driven testing packaged to meet most customer requirements for common use cases for simple web apps, APIs and networks
  • Plus Pen Tests for meeting special needs around targets, testing times, geographic requirements, etc.
  • Max Pen Tests for continuous, maximum risk reduction

“We have a diverse set of use cases for pen testing, ranging from basic vulnerability discovery for very simple web apps to intensive and continuous risk reduction for business-critical ones,” said Jason Frost, Manager, Security Assessment, Paychex. “These new additions to the Bugcrowd PTaaS product line fulfill all our needs in one platform.”

The Bugcrowd Security Knowledge Platform™ enables pen tests to run alongside Bugcrowd’s managed bug bounty, vulnerability disclosure programs, and other solutions as a fully integrated and orchestrated experience…

New owner of Canadian ransomware negotiating firm expands its mandate

Two of Canada’s best known names in cybersecurity are teaming up again, this time to lead a firm specializing in post-breach remediation.

Daniel Tobok and Ed Dubrovsky, formerly the founder and managing director respectively of the Toronto-based incident response firm Cytelligence, are now behind Cypfer, which is moving from focusing on ransomware negotiations into post-incident recovery consulting.

Both men left Cytelligence recently, after staying with that firm following its acquisition in December, 2022 by insurance and consulting giant Aon plc.

Early last month Tobok announced he had bought Toronto-based Cypfer. A few weeks later he announced that Dubrovsky has joined the company as managing director.

Dubrovsky has led international security consulting practices as well as being a chief information security officer (CISO) and chief operating officer.

“We’re about recovery post-breach,” Tobok said in an interview from Miami, where he now makes his home.

“There’s a very big gap in the market today. When companies get breached, nobody is assisting them to get up and running after an incident. Our whole strategy is to build the largest global organization that will handle post-breach remediation.”

Cypfer has 52 employees in Toronto. Tobok hopes to soon add 30 in Miami, which he said has become a big tech hub. He also plans to open offices in Europe, the Caribbean and South America.

“Florida has about six major universities,” he said, “with very robust cybersecurity programs. That’s one of the reasons we chose Florida as a base. Miami is also great because we can get international flights. New York is extremely expensive.”

Cypfer founder and president Jason Kotler will stay with the company as president. Dubrovsky will be responsible for strategy, execution, innovation and growth.

“Once somebody gets breached … their biggest problem is, when they recover, to make sure their data is secure so they don’t get re-infected with ransomware, their credentials are not compromised and they can actually operate properly,” Tobok said. “That’s been a very big problem in the industry because people can re-install software, they can re-install hardware but…

CBP Expands Facial Biometrics to Mobile, Alabama Cruise Ship Terminal

NEW ORLEANS, La. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in partnership with Carnival Cruise Line, expanded the use of facial biometrics into the debarkation process at the Port of Mobile, AL, becoming the latest seaport to modernize efforts to revolutionize cruise travel.

“As we prepare for the increase in cruise travel around our nation’s ports, CBP is working closely with the cruise industry to make travel safer and more efficient, while also supporting travel recovery efforts,” said Steven Stavinoha, Director, Field Operations for CBP’s Gulf Coast Field Office. “The biometric facial comparison process adds an extra layer of security and streamlines travel into the United States by replacing the manual inspection of travel documents with a secure, touchless process.”

When debarking the cruise vessel at a U.S. seaport, passengers will pause for a photo that will be compared to the traveler’s existing passport or visa photo in secure DHS systems to biometrically verify their identity. Upon an efficient match, passengers are allowed to proceed through inspections and exit the terminal. This innovative entry process further secures and enhances the customer experience while protecting the privacy of all travelers. The enhanced arrival process using facial biometrics verifies the traveler’s identity within two seconds and is more than 98% accurate.

U.S. travelers and select foreign nationals who are not required to provide biometrics and wish to opt out of the new biometric process can simply request a manual document check from a CBP Officer consistent with existing requirements for admission into the United States.

Already in use at major air and land ports of entry, facial biometrics in the cruise environment will strengthen CBP’s enforcement capabilities at several of the nation’s cruise ports while also enhancing the customer experience. Additionally, CBP and its cruise partners have expanded data sharing agreements to further strengthen security in cruise travel.
