Charles Schwab to Launch Crypto-Themed ETF on New York Stock Exchange

After being dubious of crypto for some years, Charles Schwab will launch its Schwab Crypto Thematic Index next week.

The fund, which will trade on the New York Stock Exchange Arca under the STCE ticker, will offer indirect exposure to the “crypto ecosystem,” Schwab Asset Management, the investment arm of the Charles Schwab Corporation, said in a statement.

Schwab’s prospectus, which the firm filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday, says in bold type that the new fund “will not invest in cryptocurrency or digital assets directly.”

Rather, at least 80% of the fund’s assets will be invested in securities, like shares of companies that have a stake in crypto. For example, the prospectus said the fund currently has 44% of its assets invested in software companies and another 41% in the diversified financials sector.

“STCE can offer more targeted exposure to cryptocurrency-focused companies compared to blockchain technology ETFs, which may have significant exposure to multi-national companies involved in blockchain (e.g., Amazon, IBM, Mastercard, and others),” David Botnet, Schwab’s head of equity product management, told Decrypt in an email.

The fund will have an annual fund operating expense of 0.30%, which works out to be $3 per $1,000 invested. That means it’ll have “the lowest cost crypto-related ETF available to investors today,” the company said in the announcement.

For comparison’s sake, the Bitwise Crypto Industry Innovators ETF (BITQ) charges 0.85% and VanEck, which just filed a new spot Bitcoin ETF application, charges 0.50% on its Digital Transformation ETF (DAPP).

It’s a bid to eke out an advantage while being late to the field. Schwab has trailed behind its traditional finance competitor, Fidelity, for a few years now.

In 2019, Charles Schwab CEO Walt Bettinger was dismissive of crypto, calling it too “speculative.” Meanwhile, in 2019, Fidelity had just been granted a charter to operate its Fidelity Digital Asset Services as a limited liability trust company in New York State.

Then, at the start of 2022, Schwab’s Bettinger told The Dallas Morning News that he thinks there’s “a tremendous void” in…

Delphix to Launch Continuous Ransomware Protection, DevOps Data Appliances

Delphix, the industry leader in DevOps test data management (TDM), today announced the launch of two new data appliances powered by Dell Technologies. Both appliances are fully engineered software solutions optimized for performance and reliability.

The Delphix CDP Appliance provides businesses with continuous data protection, multiple levels of ransomware detection, and the ability to automate instant recovery of multiple applications to a clean and data-consistent state. The Delphix DevOps Appliance provides the most advanced and secure TDM solution in the market, enabling customers to release software faster, safer, and at higher quality.

The Delphix CDP Appliance syncs data from enterprise applications in near-real time and creates a continuous, immutable data record, so applications can be recovered to any time, down to the second or a transaction boundary, for a near-zero recovery point objective (RPO). In contrast, traditional backups only protect data once a day, leaving the potential for a full day’s loss of critical business transactions.

In addition, the appliance enables the instant recovery of multiple applications using APIs for a near-zero recovery time objective (RTO). Business processes, like quote to cash, often create data dependencies and consistency challenges across applications. With this new appliance, businesses can quickly recover multiple applications to a data consistent state, even across multiple points in time, in order to determine a clean data state prior to a ransomware attack.

The Delphix CDP Appliance is built on a zero trust architecture. All data is immutable, and retained data snapshots and policies can be locked from tampering or deletion. In addition, the appliance is a fully contained, isolated recovery environment that can optionally include application and database servers.

Today, businesses need to balance both security and innovation. Many companies leave test data security and provisioning up to individual application teams and administrators, often in violation of privacy compliance and industry regulations. The Delphix DevOps Appliances automate sensitive data discovery, masking, and delivery to fully protect consumer data privacy…

DoD announces launch of a new bug bounty program

We are excited to bring Transform 2022 back in-person July 19 and virtually July 20 – 28. Join AI and data leaders for insightful talks and exciting networking opportunities. Register today!

Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced that the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO), the Directorate for Digital Services and the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) are launching the “Hack U.S” bug bounty program.

The program will offer financial rewards for ethical hackers and security researchers who can identify critical and high severity vulnerabilities in the scope of the DoD’s vulnerability disclosure program

To encourage researchers to participate, the DoD will offer a total of $110,000 for vulnerability disclosures. Payouts range between $1,000 for critical severity reports, $500 for high severity reports, and $3,000 for those in additional special categories.

The DoD’s decision to launch a bug bounty not only comes as the DoD and HackerOne have concluded a 12-month pilot as part of the Defense Industrial Base Vulnerability Disclosure Program (DIB-VDP), but also as more organizations are recognizing the attack surface has expanded to the point where security teams simply can’t keep up.

Why bug bounties are picking up momentum

One of the key driving forces behind the growing interest in bug bounties is the high number of vulnerabilities present in modern enterprise environments.

Research suggests that the average organization has roughly 31,066 security vulnerabilities in its attack surface, a number that a small internal security team can’t mitigate alone, even if they have access to the latest vulnerability management or attack surface management tools.

Given the high number of vulnerabilities, it’s no surprise that 44% of organizations report that they lack confidence in their ability to address the risks introduced by the attack resistance gap.

Bug bounties provide an answer to this challenge, by providing security teams with access to support from an army of security researchers who can help provide support by identifying vulnerabilities, and recommending fixes.
