What’s a good security systems that won’t slow my computer, at least not too much?

I just asked a question about my Norton firewall blocking my internet access and got some great answers. Mostly people suggested I get one of the other security systems available. The problem is, I used other security systems in the past and had them slow my computer down terribly. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that won’t slow down my computer very much if at all.
