Google Chrome users ALERT! Beware of this error message, stop loss

If you are a Google Chrome user you need to be a bit careful before clicking on any of unknown links. Several security experts have warned users of a fake Google Chrome error message. Informing about the same, a blog post by Trend Micro stated, “Google Chrome users who use the browser regularly should be wary of a new attack campaign that distributes malware by posing as a Google Chrome update error message. The attack campaign has been operational since February 2023 and has a large impact area.” Another report by NTT Security has also informed of the same.

How this malware works

The malware attacks the users when they visit a legitimate or compromised website that has been infected with a malicious code, including code relating to adult sites, blogs, news sites, and online stores. As a person visits these websites, a fake Google Chrome error message will pop up asking to download an update to fix a supposed security issue.

According to the blog post, in the name of the update, what will really be downloaded is a ZIP file that has an EXE file inside. This EXE file contains a Monero miner that will use the user’s computer’s processing power to mine cryptocurrency for the attackers.

According to a report by The Sun, the prompt message reads “An error occurred in Chrome automatic update. Please install the update package manually later, or wait for the next automatic update.”

It can be known that mining crypto needs a huge amount of power, which might increase your energy bills. Notably, if you become a victim to this malware, your computer may slow down and become unresponsive. The downloaded malware also has the potential to acquire sensitive information such as log-in credentials and financial data from your computer. Most importantly, your device will be vulnerable to further malware attacks.

Ransomware attacks: Ansal fears data loss

Realty firm Ansal Housing on Friday said that the company had faced multiple ransomware attacks on its IT system since February 26, which may have resulted in some data loss.

The e-mail system had been significantly impacted resulting in non-receipt of any e-mail communication on the e-mail accounts, it said in a regulatory filing.

The first series of the virus attacks had disrupted the e-mail system during the period between February 26 and March 6; and from March 7, the e-mail services could be restored.

On March 26, the server faced the second series of attacks resulting in the disruption of the e-mail system. The same could be restored by April 4.

In Tesla’s first-quarter financial statement last week, the company said that it would revitalize sluggish solar panel sales by streamlining the purchase process. “Our residential customers can now purchase solar and energy storage directly from our website, in standardized increments of capacity,” the company wrote.

Now, the New York Times is reporting that Tesla intends to slash solar panel prices by 38 percent today, with, Tesla Senior Vice President of Energy Operations Sanjay Shah telling the paper that “Tesla customers could expect to pay $ 1.75 to $ 1.99 per watt, depending on where they live.” The Solar Energy Industries Association says the average cost of residential solar panels is currently $ 2.85 per watt.

Tesla’s plan to undercut its competitors is ostensibly possible because the company is eliminating many so-called “soft costs” of solar panel installation. Instead of sending contractors out to a house to design and optimize a solar panel installation, customers will now order solar panels online, in preset increments of power. Each increment will be able to produce 4 kilowatts (kW) of power with 12 panels.

Tesla expects to be “cashflow positive every quarter from here on out, absent paying down a big loan,” said Elon Musk during a Wednesday financial call.

The CEO was contrite when he came to the call. He apologized to the analysts the had snapped at on last quarter’s call and offered subdued analysis for the quarter ahead. “Sorry if I sound a little tired,” Musk said. “I’ve been working like crazy in the body shop lately.”

Tesla published its Q2 2018 financial statement this afternoon, and it was a mixed bag for investors. The company lost more money than expected, but Tesla has finally hit the promised 5,000 Model 3s per week number this quarter. As a result, the company is slightly up in after-hours trading.
