OnePlus 6, 6T get OxygenOS 11.1.1.1 with September 2021 security patch and power consumption optimization

OnePlus released the stable build of Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 6 and 6T last month, which introduced a few bugs, including battery drain issues. To fix that, the company has begun rolling out OxygenOS 11.1.1.1, which also bumps up the Android security patch level on both smartphones to September 2021.

OxygenOS 11.1.1.1 also optimizes the network connection stability and improves the system stability and gyro sensor sensitivity on the OnePlus 6 duo. You can check out the update’s complete changelog below.

  • System
    • Optimized the system power consumption to reduce heating
    • Improved the gyro sensor sensitivity
    • Upgrade Android Security Patch to 2021.09
    • Improved system stability and fixed known issues
  • Network
    • Optimized network connection stability

The new build is seeding randomly to a limited number of users right now, and a broader rollout will commence in a few days if the new firmware doesn’t have any bugs.

Mavenir extends AI and analytics portfolio to enable optimization, automation and security of mobile networks

Mavenir extends AI and analytics portfolio to enable optimization, automation and security of mobile networks

Mavenir, the industry’s only end-to-end cloud native network software provider and a leader in accelerating software network transformation for communication service providers (Communication Service Providers , CSPs), today announced its extended portfolio of artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics to enable closed-loop automation and drive digital transformation.

Mavenir’s AI / ML-based security and anti-fraud solutions are taking care of Telefónica Argentina’s continued revenue savings”

AI and machine learning (ML) in the mobile network infrastructure are expected to reduce costs by automating functions that normally require human interaction, and to accelerate new revenue-generating service offerings, becoming increasingly important as open radio access networks (Open RAN) and 5G cores are deployed.

Mavenir’s AI and analytics portfolio includes solutions designed to analyze and derive inferences from large amounts of unstructured data to automate networks, achieve cost savings and build 5G use cases. Many Industry 4.0 use cases, such as Intelligent Video Analytics and AR / VR, are powered by 5G which require AI-based inferences at the tip. Mavenir’s portfolio includes these AI-enabled applications for network automation, intelligent operations, EdgeAI and network security.

  1. Network Automation: Mavenir’s RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) and Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) follow the specifications introduced by the O-RAN Alliance and 3GPP and operate at the heart of a network automation vision. RIC and NWDAF allow the network to dynamically adapt to traffic conditions, using machine learning (ML) based algorithms and applications that can be deployed on any network in a multi-vendor environment. Mavenir’s containerized RIC and NWDAF product features include:
  •    Non-RT RIC: designed to host advanced ML algorithms (rApps) to optimize network performance and train ML models using long-term RAN data for dynamic and adaptive policies to optimize RAN performance.
  •    Near-RT RIC: designed to host trained AI / ML models (xApps) to infer and control functional O-RAN elements in near real time.
  •    NWDAF: designed to…

Verizon accused of throttling Netflix and YouTube, admits to “video optimization”

Verizon Wireless customers this week noticed that Netflix’s speed test tool appears to be capped at 10Mbps, raising fears that the carrier is throttling video streaming on its mobile network.

When contacted by Ars this morning, Verizon acknowledged using a new video optimization system but said it is part of a temporary test and that it did not affect the actual quality of video. The video optimization appears to apply both to unlimited and limited mobile plans.

But some YouTube users are reporting degraded video, saying that using a VPN service can bypass the Verizon throttling. The Federal Communications Commission generally allows mobile carriers to limit video quality as long as the limitations are imposed equally across different video services despite net neutrality rules that outlaw throttling. The net neutrality rules have exceptions for network management.

LibreOffice aims to speed spreadsheets with AMD GPU optimization

Calc is about to get faster.
LibreOffice

The makers of LibreOffice are teaming up with AMD so that the open source office suite can take greater advantage of graphics processing units (GPUs). The partnership is geared toward optimization for AMD’s upcoming Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA), but LibreOffice developers say their work will make spreadsheets go faster for users of just about any type of computer.

The news, announced today, was spurred by AMD joining the Document Foundation board—the group behind LibreOffice—and providing financial assistance. “We traditionally had a big performance problem in Calc [the LibreOffice spreadsheet application] for large data sets,” Michael Meeks, LibreOffice developer and distinguished engineer for Attachmate’s SUSE business unit, told Ars. “My hope is we not only eliminate that problem but that we do significantly better.”

LibreOffice has not generally been able to take advantage of the horsepower in GPUs, Meeks said; AMD’s HSA helps address this problem. “HSA is an innovative computing architecture that enables CPU, GPU, and other processors to work together in harmony on a single piece of silicon by seamlessly moving the right tasks to the best suited processing element,” the Document Foundation said in an announcement. “This makes it possible for larger, more complex applications to take advantage of the power that has traditionally been reserved for more focused tasks.”
