Kiwibank customers have expressed anger and frustration over problems trying to access their accounts online to make payments and do shopping.

In an update posted shortly after 11am the bank said it was having “continued intermittent issues” with some services including internet banking, its app, website and phone services.

Kiwibank said it was also experiencing longer wait times for those trying to get through to its contact centre.

“Please consider this if you plan to call us. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

The bank’s Facebook page has been flooded with people complaining about the issues.

One woman said she couldn’t get cash out of an ATM while another said she was unable to buy groceries due to the problems.

“I went to transfer money over but bank app is still down went in sat in the line at paken save [Pak’nSave] to do all shopping yet couldn’t transfer my money over terrible Kiwibank.”

Another woman complained of not being able to get access to bank statements which she needed to send to her auditor urgently.

One man said he had tried to get through to the call centre but had been cut off six times.

“I waited for over an hour on the phone to speak to someone and gave up!!! SLACK!! (after being cut off six times trying to call you!)”

But others urged people to calm down and give the bank a chance to fix the issue.

A Kiwibank spokeswoman said it was having intermittent issues with some services including internet banking, app, website and phone services.

Asked if the bank had been subject to a cyber security attack or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack the spokeswoman said it had identified the cause and was working hard to fix the issue.

She did not say what the cause was.

“Our priority at the moment is continuity of service for our customers. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience and support.”

In a DDoS attack the hackers overwhelm a site with thousands or millions of bots trying to connect to it at once, rendering it inaccessible. There’s no element of breaking into servers or…

Idaho County Experiences Network Outages Due to Malware

(TNS) — County departments continue to operate on a limited basis this week as they deal with Internet and computer network outages caused by malware.

The county’s information technology staff, along with private cybersecurity experts, are working to determine what caused the technical disruption, Commissioner Jack Johnson said.

The FBI has also been notified of the disruption through the county’s insurance provider.

The malware came from an outside source, Johnson said, and the county has hired experts to determine where it came from. He said they expect they will not have answers for a few more days.

IT services and cybersecurity experts are putting safeguards in place to protect personal data and information contained in county records, in addition to investigating what caused this disruption.

“One of the big unknowns is if anything has been put at risk when it comes to personal information,” Johnson said.

Sheriff’s office employees first noticed issues with the county’s Internet and computer networks Saturday morning. The issue has persisted all week, and Johnson said he’s not sure when it’ll be resolved.

County phone lines also went offline for a period of time but have since been restored, Johnson said.

County email addresses are also working. The county has set up Internet hot spot devices in various offices so that some staff members are able to receive and respond to emails.

But departments are operating in limited capacities until this situation is resolved, Johnson said. Residents who need to complete business with the county should call the relevant department to check which services are available.

Along with county departments, the local court system has been affected by this disruption. Eric Wildman, administrative judge for the state’s Fifth Judicial District, issued an order Sunday limiting county court operations.

Under this order, courts in the county will only hold hearings on emergency matters, including in-custody arraignments, in-custody preliminary hearings, civil protection orders, emergency guardianship proceedings, child protection proceedings, adoptions, juvenile detention hearings and civil…

Kia denies ransomware attack after days-long network outages

Kia Motors America has denied reports that it was a victim of a recent ransomware attack. This after online services suffered across the United States, affecting the work processes used by dealers to order for vehicles and parts while also adversely affecting the UVO app that owners use to remotely start the vehicle and use its air conditioning feature.

According to reports in the US media, Kia released a statement which highlighted that as per all the information available, there is no evidence to suggest that either the company or its data has been a victim to a ransomware attack. While apologizing to customers for the inconvenience caused, Kia also said that efforts are on to address the issue of outage and that most of the repair processes are now in place and active. “We apologize for the inconvenience to affected customers, especially those impacted by winter storms, who felt the outage of our remote start and heating feature most acutely,” the statement read.

Cybersecurity news outlet BleepingComputer earlier this week had reported that as per a note it had received, ransomware gang Doppelpaymer had demanded $20 million from Hyundai to decode scrambled data. Both Hyundai and Kia systems had faced outage this week which had resulted in many car owners taking to social media to raise complaints. One buyer said she was unable to lease a Kia vehicle, most others said they were unable to turn on the car warming function remotely. Several others complained they were not able to start their vehicle through the app.

Associated Press reports that Kia has not yet confirmed if it has suffered delays in delivering vehicles to dealerships because of the outage woes even as several other reports mention dealers having suffered a push back in timelines.

At a time when cars around the world are coming packed with high-end features, such outages do pose a risk to ownership experience and may also be susceptible to online attacks from those with nefarious inten
