On your Google account

  1. On your PC, go to your Google account page and select the Security tab on the left side of the screen.
  2. Locate 2 Step Verification in the center of the page and click where it says Off.
  3. Tap the blue Get Started button on the 2-Step Verification screen.
  4. Make sure you’re on a secure connection, then sign in to your Google account and continue.
  5. Enter your phone number and click Next at the bottom of the page.
  6. Your phone will either go to a verification screen on its own, or you’ll receive a text message from Google with a security code. Enter your code or confirm your device to continue.
  7. Finally, the last prompt is to simply tap the big blue Turn On button for 2FA. Then you’re done.

On your iPhone/iPad

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap [your name] then Password & Security.
  3. Tap Turn on Two-Factor Authentication, then Continue.
  4. Apple will prompt you to enter the phone number you want to receive verification codes.
  5. You will receive a text or automated call with a verification code. Enter it to verify your number and account.

You may have to enter your Apple ID security questions when you go through this menu.

Why Biometrics Is A Powerful Tool To Stop Hackers

Computer passwords as we know them were developed in 1960. As passwords became more vulnerable to hackers, things like multi-factor authentication were added on.

As hackers continue to put cybersecurity in jeopardy, vendors like BIO-key are using biometrics to stay ahead of attackers.

Here’s a look at some of a CRNtv interview with Kim Biddings, vice president of product at BIO-key, who was named one of the 2022 Women of the Channel Awards. She talks about leveraging biometrics to protect against cyberattacks and shares her expertise on recruiting and marketing in the channel.

“When you authenticate [with biometrics], we know for certain that you are the person that‘s supposed to be authenticating that like just a device or token or password at this point,” Biddings said.

“Really the constant in all of this is us, right? We’re always behind these things, trying to log in…Enabling people to actually use a person or something about a person to authenticate them is extremely, extremely powerful to prevent those hacking methods and really increase security.”

I kind of want to shift a little bit and talk about you as a recruiter and, taking on or adding on partners and value-added distributors. What would you say are the keys to success when it comes to that field of the channel?

“I would say find a partner more so than vendors… If you aren‘t as expert [in this industry] or don’t have that level of expertise, get somebody like us or partner with you, that really does say, ‘Look, we‘ll help you identify opportunities,’ but then come in and really hold your hand show off the expertise that we’ve built over 20 years, and then that partners not having to learn that from scratch. Right? Because that‘s a huge barrier to entry into this market if you’re trying to go into it alone.”

FDNY seeks firewall to stop doxxing of workers’ personal data

The FDNY is seeking to build a digital firewall to protect the Big Apple’s thousands of rescue workers from cyberattacks, including “doxxing,” The Post has learned.

The department recently put out a call in the City Record for consultant services “for the development and implementation of protective strategies to address the cyber threat of doxxing and to provide resiliency for the security of personal information.”

Doxxing is the publishing of personal information on the internet with the intent to bully, harass or threaten others.

The sick practice has become increasingly prevalent online. A radical pro-choice group recently doxxed six Supreme Court justices to spur protesters into showing up outside their homes to oppose overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling legalizing abortion.

An FDNY spokesman said the move to increase cybersecurity wasn’t triggered by a doxxing incident involving one of the city’s Bravest. But the department has enormous databases with the personal information of its 15,000 emergency responders and other workers — as well as retirees and patients it treats responding to 911 calls — that could be vulnerable to cyberattacks.

The search for the consultant is “part of the FDNY’s ongoing cybersecurity preparedness measures to protect the department’s data,” spokesman Frank Dwyer said.

The FDNY has databases containing the personal information of approximately 15,000 members, according to a spokesman.

The selected cybersecurity pro would help implement anti-hack software and develop a training program for a workforce that interacts regularly with the public, the note to potential bidders says.

“The service should provide real time threat mitigation and recovery capabilities in the event of access to and misappropriation of personally identifiable data during the course of official duties as a member of the FDNY,” reads the note from the department.

One union leader representing FDNY responders said the solicitation to bolster firewall cybersecurity shows the department is behind the times in guarding against data breaches.
