Cyberattack On Indian Government Claimed By StarsX Team

The StarsX Team hacker group has claimed responsibility for an alleged cyberattack on Indian government websites. The group made its announcement on a dark web forum, providing links to substantiate their claims.

The attached links contained a list of alleged victims and references to check-host.net to support their assertions. Notably, the threat actor appears to be affiliated with Indonesia, as indicated by the Indonesian flag attached to the threat actor’s name.

The claimed cyberattack specifically targeted five government websites: the Department of Justice, High Court of Punjab and Haryana, UP Police, Intellectual Property India, and the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation.

Despite these claims, a closer inspection reveals that all the mentioned websites are currently functioning normally, showing no signs of the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack alleged by the threat actor.

Claims of Cyberattack on Indian Government Websites

A DDoS attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal functioning of a targeted server, service, or network by overwhelming it with a flood of internet traffic.

It involves the use of multiple compromised computers or devices to generate traffic, making it challenging for the targeted system to handle legitimate requests.

The Cyber Express reached out to some of the affected organizations to verify the alleged cyberattack on Indian government websites. As of now, no official statements or responses have been received, leaving the claims unverified.

It’s worth noting that the StarsX Team hacker group has a history of targeting multiple countries. In a post from October, the group declared its intentions, stating that they are fighting to defend Palestine’s right to independence.

The group condemned Israel, India, France, and America for alleged oppression of the Palestinian people and human rights violations. StarsX Team specifically identified these countries as their main targets.

Hacking the future: Notes from DEF CON’s Generative Red Team Challenge

The 2023 DEF CON hacker convention in Las Vegas was billed as the world’s largest hacker event, focused on areas of interest from lockpicking to hacking autos (where the entire brains of a vehicle were reimagined on one badge-sized board) to satellite hacking to artificial intelligence. My researcher, Barbara Schluetter, and I had come to see the Generative Red Team Challenge, which purported to be “the first instance of a live hacking event of a generative AI system at scale.”

It was perhaps the first public incarnation of the White House’s May 2023 wish to see large language models (LLMs) stress-tested by red teams. The line to participate was always longer than the time available, that is, there was more interest than capability. We spoke with one of the organizers of the challenge, Austin Carson of SeedAI, an organization founded to “create a more robust, responsive, and inclusive future for AI.”

Carson shared with us the “Hack the Future” theme of the challenge — to bring together “a large number of unrelated and diverse testers in one place at one time with varied backgrounds, some having no experience, while others have been deep in AI for years, and producing what is expected to be interesting and useful results.”

Participants were issued the rules of engagement, a “referral code,” and brought to one of the challenge’s terminals (provided by Google). The instructions included:

  • A 50-minute time limit to complete as many challenges as possible.
  • No attacking the infrastructure/platform (we’re hacking only the LLMs).
  • Select from a bevy of challenges (20+) of varying degrees of difficulty.
  • Submit information demonstrating successful completion of the challenge.

Challenges included prompt leaking, jailbreaking, and domain switching

The challenges included a variety of goals, including prompt leaking, jailbreaking, roleplay, and domain switching. The organizers then handed the keys to us to take a shot at breaking the LLMs. We took our seats and became a part of the body of testers and quickly recognized ourselves as fitting firmly in the “slightly above zero knowledge” category.

We perused the various challenges and chose to attempt…

Shield AI and Kratos Team up to Integrate AI Pilot on Valkyrie XQ-58

Integration of AI Pilot onboard XQ-58 Valkyrie will unlock concept of intelligent, affordable mass for US DoD and Allies – the Holy Grail of Deterrence

SAN DIEGO, June 15, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: KTOS), a Technology Company in the Defense, National Security and Global Markets, and Shield AI, Inc., a defense technology company building the world’s best AI pilot, have signed an agreement to integrate and bring to market an AI pilot built by Shield AI for Kratos’ XQ-58 Valkyrie, making real the concept of crewed-uncrewed teaming for jet aircraft.

Ukraine is losing 10,000 drones per month due to Russian electronic warfare – primarily because the Russians are jamming communications and GPS. If an uncrewed aircraft is unable to operate without GPS and without communications, it will be near useless in future conflicts,” said Brandon Tseng, Shield AI’s Cofounder and President, who is also a former Navy SEAL. “AI Pilots enable teams of aircraft to intelligently execute missions without GPS and communications. When you take an incredible, affordable uncrewed jet aircraft like the XQ-58 and pair it up with our AI pilot, you create a game-changing strategic deterrent.”

“The Valkyrie is one of a very few number of uncrewed jet aircraft that are flying today, ramping in production, and are ready for AI pilot integration. Close integration and access with Kratos on the XQ-58 will enable the productization of intelligent uncrewed jet aircraft on a timeline that is, quite frankly, going to shock some people. Ultimately our AI pilots will be flying many uncrewed jet aircraft, but I can’t think of a better uncrewed jet to start with than the Valkyrie,” said Ryan Tseng, Shield AI’s Cofounder and CEO.

Shield AI has developed a combat-deployed AI pilot that has…

Tangedco forms cyber security team to check grid hacking in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News

CHENNAI: To ensure the safety of the electricity grid from cyber attacks, Tamil Nadu Electricity Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has formed a dedicated team for cyber security for Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (Tantranso) and State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC).
An information security division (ISD) and a security operation centre (SOC) have been formed by redeploying the existing officials in line with the guidelines issued by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in 2021 for compliance by power utilities across the country.
There were reports of Chinese hackers targeting Indian power hubs last year. Tata Power confirmed it was hit by a cyberattack in October 2022.
The Union government has already set up a computer emergency response team under the power ministry to act as a nodal agency to coordinate all matters related to cyber security.
Framing of information security policy, implementing a security management system, and cyber crisis management plan, acquiring ISO 27001, conducting cyber security audits once in six months and mock drills are some of the cyber security measures Tangedco should incorporate to comply with CEA guidelines.
Currently, one assistant executive engineer and eight assistant engineers have been shifted to take care of the activities of ISD and SOC at the state load despatch centre, while two executive engineers and an assistant executive engineer will take care of the cyber security activities on behalf of CERT-GO and CERT-TRANS.
The chief engineer (personnel) at Tangedco has been directed to identify officers and redeploy them in the newly created posts. A senior official of the discom said that dedicated teams for cyber security have been formed to secure the power networks from the cyber-attacks leading to blackouts in future.
