Do NOT download GB WhatsApp! It can spy on your Android phone

A new report says that India is one of the largest countries for Android malware to exploit. Here are details.

Android phones are not safe and a new report reaffirms that. But the bigger shock comes from the fact that India is one of the biggest playgrounds for Android malware. Based on the T2 2022 Threat Report by Malware protection and Internet Security firm ESET, it is said that most of the Android Trojan malware is found in India, and it continues to grow by 9.5 percent in the latter half of 2022. And one of the prime suspects is the GB WhatsApp app, which is responsible for spreading the malware.

The GB WhatsApp app, which is a third party WhatsApp client, is an easy way to spread the Android spyware. The app is essentially a modified version of WhatsApp that offers some added features along with the usual WhatsApp features. You won’t find the app listed on the Google Play Store and users need to download its APK and sideload it from other sources. However, the sideload files are easily modified with malicious content and they spread malware as soon as the users download it.

Android malware spreads with GB WhatsApp

Once the app is installed, the malicious codes run in the background, all the while the user doesn’t get a whiff of it. What’s even more dangerous is that the trojan malware is not immediately noticeable as it doesn’t leave any trace on your phone, and even show signs that it is there. The spyware has no effect on the daily performance of your smartphone. Hence, the spyware will continue to steal your data and you may not even know it.

The only way known to get rid of such malware is to perform a full factory reset of your device. And that means you are going to lose all your data. Even having a backup of such data and reinstalling it would reinstate the malware.

How to stay safe

– First and foremost, you should not download and install apps from outside the Google Play store. Most APK files hosted on other app libraries and websites can contain malware embedded into them.

– Never download any modified version of WhatsApp or any other social media app. Unless the app has been released by the developer themselves, stick to the official app.

– In case you suspect your…

WhatsApp boss warns users: Don’t download this app

Issuing a stern warning to users, WhatsApp has asked them to beware of the fake versions of the messaging app. The instant messaging app’s CEO, Will Cathcart has urged users on Twitter to not use the modified version of WhatsApp as they could end up in big trouble by doing so.

Stating that the security research team of the company found some malicious apps that claim to offer services similar to WhatsApp, Cathcart warned that apps like “Hey WhatsApp” from a developer called “HeyMods” are dangerous and people should avoid downloading them.

He further said that the company’s team discovered that these apps promise to offer some new features to users, but that is just a scam to steal personal information stored on people’s phones.

He said that mobile phone malware is a pernicious threat that must be countered and the security community continues to develop new ways to prevent it from spreading.

Do keep in mind that the modified or fake versions of WhatsApp can offer features similar to WhatsApp but they don’t offer the end-to-end encryption feature that you get with the original version of the messaging app. This helps protect your chats and personal data, so no one can access your details, not even WhatsApp.

The new fake version of WhatsApp is not visible on Play Store, but users who try to download the apps…

Windows Security is the suite that comes built-in with Windows. So, when you install Windows 11, it gets automatically installed. It proves to be one of the most effective security solutions by Microsoft.

It includes an antivirus program called Microsoft Defender Antivirus which was known as Windows Defender Security Center in the older versions of Windows 10.

The app does a considerably good job in most situations with real-time protection for your PC from virus and malware attacks.

However, the app is prone to issues, for example, it may fail to open or may not work sometimes when you try to launch the app.

You may want to check first if the Windows Defender app is turned off

Five days later, Toei Animation would publicly reveal the hack, announcing in an official statement that an unauthorized third-party had accessed the company’s network and in doing so caused a partial shutdown of the company’s internal computing systems.

At the time, as reported by Japanese news outlet NHK, the studio “believed that the cyber-attack was caused by ‘ransomware,’ a ransom-type computer virus.”
