Hundreds of Russian Soldiers Using Cell Phones Were Just Targeted and Killed

Russian soldiers had been gathered together into a building and told to watch Putin’s new year’s message.

Some or even many allegedly turned on their cell phones.

Then they were dead.

Russia’s defence ministry said on Wednesday that 89 servicemen were killed in the Ukrainian attack on Makiivka over the weekend, adding the main reason for the attack was unauthorised use of mobile phones by the troops.

Ukraine estimates for the strike are more in the 300 range. Given accuracy of targeting at this point, they’d probably know better than Russia.

Hundreds of crimes reported near shopping centers in Memphis – FOX13 News Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shopper posted on Reddit that he went inside a Kroger store about 4 p.m. earlier this week.

He returned to his car to find out that the vehicle’s window was broken with the interior destroyed, even though there was security around.

He claimed that he learned shortly after the car break in, the crooks carjacked a woman across the parking lot.

”The criminal element, they see you way before you see them, and they count on that,” said Mike Collins, a crime analyst and retired Shelby County Sheriff detective. “That is part of their element of surprise.”

Police data showed that 166 crimes were reported this year within a half-mile of the Kroger shopping center at Poplar Avenue and Kirby Parkway, including 45 on just this block.

But it’s not only isolated to this location.

FOX13 learned that more than 500 crimes were reported in a half-mile radius of the Kroger store at Poplar Avenue and Highland Street. That includes about 80 just in this part of the shopping center.

Crimes at both spots range from shoplifting and theft to robbery and assault.

Collins said that those types of crime are not uncommon for shopping centers.

”They are ideal. That’s the exact hunting grounds for criminal activity, because people are bustling, moving in and out of those particular areas,” Collins said.

Collins encourages everyone to have their guard up when running errands.

He also encourages businesses to beef up security.

”Hopefully these businesses have mobile security, so they can move around and keep the criminal off balance,” Collins said.

Never-Before-Seen Malware Infected Hundreds Of Linux, Windows Devices

DETROIT – Researchers have revealed a never-before-seen piece of cross-platform malware that has infected a wide range of Linux and Windows devices, including small office routers, FreeBSD boxes, and large enterprise servers.

Black Lotus Labs, the research arm of security firm Lumen, is calling the malware Chaos, a word that repeatedly appears in function names, certificates, and file names it uses.

Chaos emerged no later than April 16, when the first cluster of control servers went live in the wild. From June through mid-July, researchers found hundreds of unique IP addresses representing compromised Chaos devices. Staging servers used to infect new devices have mushroomed in recent months, growing from 39 in May to 93 in August. As of last week, the number reached 111.

Black Lotus has observed interactions with these staging servers from both embedded Linux devices as well as enterprise servers, including one in Europe that was hosting an instance of GitLab. There are more than 100 unique samples in the wild.
