Twitter users aren't the only ones checking the microblogging service for important updates. Android malware is starting to do so, too. One maker of Android malware is using Twitter to communicate with infected smartphones, according to security firm ESET.

Obama’s cybersecurity agenda bold, but relies on untested funding, experts say

President Obama is floating a $ 3.1 billion plan to upgrade drastically outdated federal cyber infrastructure, but it depends on uncertain initial outlay from Congress and an untried funding mechanism, experts say.

The IT Modernization Fund would require one-time funding and then be replenished down the road by agencies that have tapped it to pay for moving from old systems like mainframes to more modern, reliable and defensible machines.

Drive-by attack relies on hacked GoDaddy accounts

Hundreds of hacked domain name accounts registered through GoDaddy are being used as part of a highly effective campaign using the Angler exploit kit to infect computers with malware.

The attackers are using the accounts to create subdomains that shuttle Web surfers to websites hosting Angler, wrote Nick Biasini, an outreach engineer with Cisco Systems.

The owners of the accounts are usually unaware of the activity, which Cisco calls “domain shadowing,” since they may rarely log into their accounts. Hundreds of GoDaddy accounts that have several thousand domain names assigned to them have been compromised, Biasini wrote.
