what is the best computer security software?

I have Trend Micro on my computer now but it’s about to expire – was there when i bought it. What’s the best program out there that’s easy to use? I don’t want the free sites, I want to pay for something, install it, and not have to think about it or read the manual to get it working.

I keep seeing that Norton and Kaspersky (sp?) are the best, but not user friendly. Any suggestions? Do you need more than internet security? Does that include anti-virus and anti-spam protection? Help!

Kapersky is reputed to be the best of the paid antivirus softwares because it’s unobtrusive and will just quietly do its thing in the background without slowing down your system.

You need to make sure you have completely uninstalled every trace of Trend Micro first, though, as two or more antivirus applications often regard the other as a virus.

Every Security Program is catching up to new threads. So, you can decide wheter or not you want to buy a product which puts a lot of money into marketing (especially norton), or you could say you want a product that has all the money put into coding and stuff.

A free Product is not a bad thing in general. Most “free” products, such as avast, are just free for private home users. But offices and other businesses must pay for it. Your decision.

    A few suggestions:
    -nod32
    -panda security
    -avast antivirus(free)
    -avira antivir (free)

If you think , the paid anti-virus providers are going to give you best kind of protection , then you should go with Norton , its the fastest and lightest on system resources .

You can go for it .

    Good Luck

Don’t listen to people who already have their personal preferences and have not tested the others in-depth. Listen to those people who have rigidly tested and reviewed almost all side by side:

    If you want Internet Security:

    If you only want Antivirus:

BitDefender may be the best in Internet Security but is only ranked third in the AV list. On the other hand, Webroot may be the best in the AV list but is only ranked third in the IS list.

Note that Kaspersky is a consistent 2nd best in both lists. Norton is a consistent 4th best.

I use Kaspersky. It’s not true that it’s not user friendly. I didn’t have a hard time the first time I installed it. I’m a Kaspersky user for more than 2 years now. I dumped Norton 5 years ago and ZoneAlarm 3 years ago when I found out that ZA uses Kaspersky’s AV engine.
