Which computer security program will give me the best results?

My computer is heavily infected with viruses, trojans, etc. Which security product will give me the most bang for my buck?

    AVG Free antivirus.
    Zonealarm is a free firewall.

These 2 would be your best bet, both free and both very well respected in the IT world.

I would recommend attempting to salvage any files you can, then reinstalling your operating system (probably Windows XP or Vista) using the CD that came with your computer.

Simply insert this CD and restart, then the installer will load. All you must do then is delete every partition on the hard drive and use the non-partitioned space to create a new Windows installation. Please note that you’ll lose all your files and programs this way.

This will get rid of all the viruses and other malware that you have. Also, you may wish to check out:

http://www.clamwin.com/ – EXCELLENT free virus removal tool
    http://free.grisoft.com/ – Free real-time virus blocker

Those programs above should help you keep a new install protected. As for an already-infected PC, these are harder to work with. You may want to look into a program called “HijackThis,” do a quick Google search on that (DO NOT USE UNLESS YOU ARE QUITE GOOD WITH COMPUTERS).

AVG/Norton/Avast Antivirus. they are the best (for me). but dont download them from net. they might bring more viruses to ur computer. install them/one of them/two of them (ur wish) from a cd.

  4. S. Ajmal says:

    – AVG 7.5 Anti Virus
    – AVG Anti-Spyware (It’s free)
    – COMODO Firewall Professional

Further: try to not use EI, I recommend you to use Mozilla Firefox only because it is more secure than EI.

firstly, dont get AVG because it is considered as a virus itself. this is because the program gathers data and sends it away or somthing. so dont get AVG.

i’d go with norton 360 or bitdefender. both these programs are very good. i have used both of these in the past and both are way better than AVG. id personaly go with norton because its easy to use and its got great protection against hackers and other threats

I am curious, how do you know that your PC is so infected?

No disrespect but only a novice would let their machine get into such as mess so I would not recommend using any of the free antivirus software to clean such a heavily infected machine and it is not safe to use your PC to purchase online. In fact if you have been using your bank and or credit card details on your PC you may have had your account details stolen.

As already suggested the safest way would be to reload your operating system and then install a complete security package. I would recommend what I now use; McAfee (If you have not reloaded Windows purchase on CD from a local store). I have tried and tested most security software packages and I find this one of the more powerful and user friendly also unlike Norton it does not bring lower powered PCs to a crawl.

If you are running a legal copy of XP or Vista you could delete any out of date antivirus. A Windows warning should pop up, click on the warning and then click on the How to Fix link. This will open a Microsoft webpage where you can download fully functioning antivirus software trial from a whole raft of reputable makers. The last time I looked McAfee was offering a complete security package free for three months.

Do not, as another post seems to suggest, load more than one antivirus software, it is not necessary and will cause all kinds of problems.

    SIMPLE STEPS TO
    DOWNLOADING
    VIRUS & SPYWARE PROTECTION

    AVG FOR VIRUS PROTECTION
AVG anti FOR SPYWARE, MALWARE, ROOTKITS
BOTH FOUND AT http://www.grifsoft.com or go to yahoo and enter in search box – AVGfree and the first or 1. Item that is listed is the web site for you to go to.
Once there you will see advertisement for both free & paid plus updates, at the left upper side you’ll see download for free basic protection, click the orange download bar and this will get the free program for AVG virus
Under that picture you will see the words AVG anti-spy ware Free edition the writing is in orange, click it for your download of AVG anti spy ware program
If for any reason someone just needs the updates to the current program and cannot download on their machine, a person a look to bottom right corner of page and find them, put on jump drive and just plug in and AVG will find it when you click update on the program. (this is just for the virus program)

Now for your next layer of protection download the following also but remember you can only run one program at a time, but each of these will fine things the other didn’t.
Spybot search & destroy found at http://www.safer-networking.org
    Superantispyware found at http://superantispyware.com

And finally go to this web site for this program to clean up your internet history, cookies, browser history, recycle bin, IE Explorer, etc all the boxes can be preset and basically in 4 steps you can clean computer. It does so well that disc clean usually only will find 32-100MB after its done
http://www.snapfiles.com go to the freeware section, look for Internet Cleanup, then look for the software called IE Privacy Keeper

Last but not least do Defrag at least 2 times in a row even if program says not needed, as XP Defrag program isn’t the best and needs to be run more often.

And also go to http://www.glaryulitilies.com for free registry repair programs or to http://www.snapfiles.com and to their freeware section to find them also.
(need only one virus program but you may have as many spy ware programs as you wish as long as you run only one at a time, and only one firewall)
