Maximum tolerance for WV cops during rallies

BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Police commanders in Western Visayas have been ordered to exercise maximum tolerance in dealing with demonstrators protesting of the outcome of May 9 elections.

PBrig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo, regional police director of Western Visayas, however issued an appeal for those who may engage in protest actions to avoid activities that can disrupt the peace and order, and to follow existing laws and ordinances.

Dongbo said that PNP personnel should strictly follow the PNP operational procedures and exercise maximum tolerance at all times.

Furthermore, he reminded police personnel to ensure the safety of both the rallyists and the general public.

No properties must be damaged and it must not cause inconveniences such as traffic congestion and disruption of the normal activities of the people in the areas where protests are held, Dongbo added.

He also commended the 12,000 police personnel of the region for their contribution in safeguarding and ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of May 9 polls.

Not a single election-related incident took place during the synchronized national and local elections in Western Visayas, especially in the 19 poll hotspots in Negros Occidental.

The 12,000 police officers were distributed across Western Visayas based on threats, risks and security requirements of the areas, Dongbo said.

They performed tasks such as providing security to polling centers, mobile security teams, manning the election monitoring action centers and providing quick response teams, among others, he added.*

Vizag cops take MSCD to detect suspected criminals

Visakhapatnam: Keeping in view the rush at public places during the summer vacations and the free movement of the public after end of the Covid19 restrictions, the Vizag City Police (VSP) has intensified its vigil via the Mobile Security Check Device (MSCD) to detect people with a criminal history.

In 2021, nearly 10,000 suspects were detected and their fingerprints verified through MSCD devices by the personnel attached with all the 23 police stations in the VSP jurisdiction, covering the nearly 25 lakh population.

This year, 3000 odd numbers of suspects were examined from January till date. However, the number of offenders of various police cases identified through the verification process was negligible, official sources informed Deccan Chronicle.

A senior police officer said, “In fact, we paused for a while with the MSCD system for verification of suspects in the city during the third wave of Covid19 from January to February. We resumed doing it in recent days. The criminal background of the suspects offender is immediately known. Their nationality does not matter here. We can get the crime history of the person from any part of the country.”

According to the crime wing of the VSP, the system detects the images of the suspects by just touching the fingerprints with the help of MSCD. The device is attached to an Android-based mobile or tablet to detect the images of the suspects just by touch of fingers and shared with the AFIS server for automatic matching against the database for real time identification in the field.

“We did not find many numbers of offenders with the help of the MSCD this year, but the number of searches are increasing daily and the verification of numbers of suspects is also increasing due to the summer. During this time, there is the rush of tourists, passengers and visitors in bus stations, parks, beaches,” a police officer told DC.

British terrorist was hunted by cops days BEFORE he flew to New York

Faiisal Akram, 44, from Blackburn who was the gunman in the hostage situation at a Texas and able to enter the US despite being a career criminal and a religious extremist who was a regular at protests to free Muslim prisoners

Britain and the US were today accused of ‘dropping the ball’ after letting career criminal Malik Faisal Akram fly to New York despite police already hunting for him and his links to a religious sect banned in Saudi Arabia for attempts to ‘purify Islam’.

The Blackburn terrorist, 44, was shot dead in Texas on Saturday night after a 10-hour siege at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville where he took a rabbi and three of his congregation hostage with a handgun and claiming to be carrying a suicide bomb.

Today it emerged that Akram became known to counter-terrorism police after becoming ‘completely obsessed’ with Islam and displayed extreme and disruptive behaviour at Friday prayers during his most recent spell in prison.

He was also a regular at anti-Israel demonstrations and marches for the release of Muslim prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, having first been put behind bars in 1996 as a juvenile delinquent and going in and out of prison for 16 years until he found religion.

In 2001 he was banned from his local court, where he was a regular in the dock, for turning up to abuse staff and ranting about 9/11. He was a regular visitor to Pakistan and reportedly a member of the Tablighi Jamaat group, set up to ‘purify’ Islam and banned from Saudi after the kingdom described the group as a ‘gateway to terrorism’.

One US senator, briefed on the case the Department for Homeland Security and a former Pentagon official, told The Daily Telegraph today: ‘Certainly someone let the ball drop.’

The security services were today accused of a serious ‘intelligence failure’ after a British Islamist was able to travel to the US – and MailOnline can reveal that about a fortnight ago, police were looking for him at the Manchester home he shares with his six children.

One of the hostages at the Congregation Beth Israel in, Colleyville, Texas, was released and taken to his family. Authorities have said all hostages are now out and safe after the terrorist was shot
