Hacking group Squad303 creates tool to send random Russian phones anti-war messages

“We the people of the world have a message to the Russian nation. A nation that is to pay a huge price because of the shameful decision of the dictator Putin to attack an independent Ukraine by armed forces,” the website states.

“However, nearly 150 million Russians do not know the truth about the causes or course of the war in Ukraine. It is fed with the lies of the Kremlin propaganda. There is no free media in Russia and the internet is censored.”

When one of the sending options is clicked on, a random recipient is chosen and a stock message from a selection is pre-populated in Russian for sending with a single click.

One potential email message describes the Ukraine invasion as a “fatal step” leading to huge human losses that undermines the foundations of international security.

“The responsibility for unleashing a new war in Europe lies entirely with Russia,” it continues.

“There is no rational justification for this war. Attempts to use the situation in Donbass as a pretext for launching a military operation do not inspire any confidence.”

Squad303 said they had received direct evidence that people using the service were doing a “great job”.

“The Kremlin is afraid of you,” they wrote on Twitter.

Google will send air raid alerts to Android phones in Ukraine

Android users in Ukraine will get air raid alerts directly on their phones before expected attacks happen near them, Google announced today. In an updated blog post, the company said it’s working with the Ukrainian government to roll out an alert system for Android phones in the country. The feature was first spotted by XDA-Developers.

“Tragically, millions of people in Ukraine now rely on air strike alerts to try to get to safety,” Google says in the announcement. The Android pings will be based on the alerts already being sent by the Ukrainian government, and it’s adapted from a system built for quickly sending warnings about earthquakes, according to Dave Burke, vice president of engineering for Android.

Google has already been highlighting the Ukrainian Alarm app on the Google Play Store, which sends air raid notifications to Ukrainians in regions with active alerts. The new alerts system begins rolling out today and will ramp up to all Android phones in Ukraine in the coming days, Burke says.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Google has scaled back its presence in Russia, including pausing all ad sales and removing Russian state-funded media apps from Google Play in Europe.

“The Russian invasion of Ukraine is both a tragedy and a humanitarian disaster in the making,” Google wrote on March 1st. The company said it was working to “support people in Ukraine through our products, defend against cybersecurity threats, surface high-quality, reliable information and ensure the safety and security of our colleagues and their families in the region.”

If you have received in the last hours an email sent by WhatsApp… distrust. In the first place, do it because at no time the instant messaging application would contact you by email, and secondly, do it because it is a scam that could nothing less than “hack” your mobile.

Be wary if a company like WhatsApp tries to contact you by email

Despite these two assumptions, there are many users who, in the last hours, are being victims of this deception. This is assured by the Internet Security Office, which has warned of the diffusion that this new attempt at scam with WhatsApp as a hook is getting.

Apparently, the hackers on this occasion are trying to deceive users using a different means than usual: email. The person who is a victim of this deception receives an email with the following title: «Backup of WhatsApp messages * 913071605 Nº (xxxx)«. It may also include its own phone number, which makes more than one user trust that it is a legitimate email.

However, it is not such. In fact, the phone number in relation to the email could have been obtained in some internet data breach. This, however, is not known by some users, who “bite” on the hook and pay attention to the email, considering that it was indeed sent by WhatsApp.

But it is a fake email. Despite the fact that the user is indicated that he will be able to see the conversations stored by that number when clicking on the link, this is a fraudulent link. It actually leads to a download website that asks for permission to download an attachment.

In it, obviously, there is a Trojan virus that what it does is “hack” the mobile phone, giving cybercriminals access to all the information and data that are stored on the device.

To prevent hackers from being able to access our mobile phone, in this case it would be enough to ignore the email received. In addition, as they recall from the Internet Security Office, these emails provide indications that would have to make anyone doubt their veracity: for example, they include words in other languages or with grammatical and…
