Whatsapp To End Support For These Ios Users. Check Your Compatibility

WhatsApp is planning to drop support for iOS 10, iOS 11, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5C over the coming months. This is not a panic situation but it is natural. Companies keep themselves updating in order to implement new changes and overall for enhancing the security and safety of the users privacy with the changing world and its threats. Similarly, the Meta-owned instant messaging app has announced to withdraw support for the older versions of iOS operating inside erstwhile iPhones.

After this update many of the WhatsApp in-app features may not be available to the iPhone users across the world, only those who are still using the dated iOS versions. These features could be reactions or payments but we do not know exactly which all features will get affected by this change. WhatsApp also does it to Android ecosystem as well to keep them updating.

According to the WhatsApp tracker, WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop supporting the above mentioned iPhones starting October 24, 2022, which is like five months ahead. Devices operating on iOS 10 and iOS 11 will not be able to function properly with all the features after that. The least supporting base will be iOS 12 and above to fully enjoy the features of WhatsApp.

Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C are not compatible with iOS 12 and hence these users would not be able to use WhatsApp as the new changes will start rolling out. WhatsApp simply means to upgrade the security of the chat and other in-app features.

WhatsApp launches new browser extension to make its web app more secure

Shortly after WhatsApp’s dev team enabled simultaneous multi-device support on its beta version, it also announced a new browser extension. The add-on is called Code Verify and its sole purpose is to ensure the web version of WhatsApp is secure enough and the end-to-end encryption hasn’t been compromised.

WhatsApp launches new browser extension to make its web app more secure

WhatsApp says that after it launched the multi-device support, it’s seeing an increasing number of WhatsApp web logins. And the web app is naturally less resilient against attacks. So the Code Verify ensures the same level of security as a native app on Windows, iOS or Android.

The browser extension itself is very simple. It merely compares the presented hash code with the one uploaded to a trusted and secure Cloudflare. If everything is alright, the extension gives you the green light to proceed with your conversations.

WhatsApp update brings major new security feature to check app is legitimate

WhatsApp has launched a new feature, named “Code Verify”, intended to improve its security.

The tool consists of a browser extension that makes sure users are really running WhatsApp – and that the code has not been tampered with an attempt to hack or otherwise attack users.

WhatsApp said it had taken the decision to introduce the new tool because of a rise in the number of people using WhatsApp Web, which allows people to access their messages through their browser. That came after the company added multi-device capability last year, meaning that WhatsApp could connect with more than one computer at any one time.

Using WhatsApp on the web means that users can keep up with messages on their computer, type using their keyboard, and more. But it also offers a new opportunity for cyber criminals to try and break into the system.

That is because while WhatsApp is able to encrypt the messages as they are sent over its system, protecting them from being read, hackers could potentially read those messages by hacking into the WhatsApp Web code itself.

Unlike the mobile app version of WhatsApp, web apps are served up straight to users – meaning that the security can be weaker and people might not even know they are being tricked.

“For years, WhatsApp has protected the personal messages you send on WhatsApp Web with end-to-end encryption as they transit from sender to recipient,” WhatsApp wrote in its announcement. “But security conscious users need to be confident that when WhatsApp Web receives these encrypted messages, it is protected as well.”

Code Verify attempts to fix that. It is installed as a web browser extension and works with internet infrastructure company Cloudflare to check that the code being run is legitimate, and that users are not being hacked.

Once it is installed, it will automatically check that code and show the result in a traffic light system. Users will be told that they are validated and safe, that there are possible risks – or that there is a validation failure and something has gone wrong with the source code.

WhatsApp Gets EU Ultimatum to Tell Users How Data Is Handled

Jan. 27, 2022, 11:19 AM

WhatsApp was handed a one-month deadline to clarify recent changes to its terms of service and privacy policy and ensure their compliance with European Union consumer protection law.

The move follows concerns over the lack of clear information to consumers on the consequences of their decision to accept or decline the company’s new terms of service, the European Commission said Thursday.

“WhatsApp must ensure that users understand what they agree to and how their personal data is used, in particular where it is shared with business partners,” EU justice commissioner Didier Reynders said in a statement. “WhatsApp has until the …
